i know kelly wasn't match fit or sharp and wouldn't have played only for mcshane was injured but we have been making these mistakes far too often, and people beleive that trap has got us conceding less goals etc etc, but we are still prone to at least 1 serious error per game.
against bulgaria or italy we could annihilated because of this.

The rest of this season will be of great benefit to Kelly. He is geting a game in the Premier Leage, not to give him a run to gain experience, but because his manager thinks he is the best right back at the club.
Thats a big step up and he can learn a lot in this time. We now all have a lot invested in Stoke surviving this season IMO. If he and Whelan can stay in the team and keeep them up they will be better players for us.
he has had 12 cas but a lot of them are as a sub when games were over. He needs time and experience. Lets not write him off just yet
By the time Bulgaria roll into town, Kelly will have far more games under his belt at Stoke. Lack of match sharpness cost him tonight, but he did recover well from it. Hopefull Finnan will be back fit as well, and it'll be a choice between Finnan, Kelly and Foley for the full back berth
I think we as football nation have to accept that the players we have at the moment in terms of a squad, is not the best. So we also have to accept that errors are made by all players but the best players make less errors. To expect Ireland to go through a game without an error is impossible, if that was the case, we would win everything but we do not cause the players we have do make them, so we cannot really stop it happening.
There's little doubt Finnan is our number 1 full-back, but based on the fact that Trap gave McShane every chance to prove his fitness for this past match, and the fact that Kelly had a pretty bad game, I'd say McShane is second choice to Finnan for that position.
Not on merit or ability, but in Trap's mind.
That's why Trapattoni is unwilling to make to unforced changes to the team as a lot of errors can be eliminated through organisation and structure. For instance, the Georgian goal and Poland's first goal can perhaps be related to Kelly and Folan not being up to speed with their respective roles and responsibilities.
I suppose to some up, Familiarity. That makes sense, and TheBoss whilst I understand what you are saying, all these players are Professionals, making schoolboy errors, that is not acceptable. I can understand being beaten by a good player or being dummied or whatever, but not simple mistakes. If Trap thinks by breeding familiarity that he can Iron these out then so be it, as the man says if one man knows another mans faults he knows what he needs to do to cover these.

Giles was realistic in his pre-match chat: you'll always concede chances against anyone. For me the big positive was that at 2-1 we gave them nothing, and injury time was as relaxed (if you can ever call it that watching ireland) as I've seen recently.
Watching the SKY replay at home now. One of the benefits of losing one's job in the credit crunch I guess!
In fairness to Stephen Kelly it was a big ask for him to play in such a big game after only two competitive game after a long term injury.
having seen the replay of their goal again i wouldnt be so harsh on kelly. he came out and explained afterwards what happened and id actually give him the benefit of the doubt after seeing it again from behind the goal. in my opinion the two ctre halfs and kelly were all to blame
yep, I agree with the collective failure though I do think Kelly should have put his foot to it and he did let it affect him. You could see he just didn't want the ball anywhere near him for the next 20 minutes.
am i the only one that thinks Kelly is rubbish either way? there is no way he should have been in that team ahead of Foley...
