Fantastic bowling and fielding performance, the batting was a bit nervy but the O'Briens should quality throughout their innings.

I misread the fixtures - its New Zealand, Sri Lanka & Pakistan/Netherlands.

Any one know why Kevin O'Brien so far down the order? Wilson & Mooney ahead of him do not inspire confidence.

He was not bowling today, I think the feeling is that Wilson and Mooney are there to protect the score by ticking it over for a some overs till one of them goes, and than K O'Brien and Johnston can go for it.

That is what caught me out so. My bandwagonism shown up

So what are Irelands chances? Is there any logic to thinking better Pakistan progress so Ireland will continue as underdogs?

Netherlands scored 160 runs v England, that is an impressive total for them, so saying that Ireland are favorites would be wrong, it would be a 50/50 game, I think.

Mooney's a good hitter in T20, about all he's good for these days. Kevin O'Brien's place in the order is the big question mark of Irish cricket, especially as it becomes increasingly apparent that he can't bowl at international level. Whereas Trent Johnston can still bowl but can't bat worth a curse anymore.

    Thumbs up

I enjoy cricket, but I'd not been following the Twenty20 World Cup (didn't realise it was on yet), until I heard folk making fun of Australia on the radio, on the basis of "even Ireland can get to the super 8s". That would be the second major tournament Super 8s in a row, would it not.

Anyway, I'd like to congratulate all of those of you on here who have repeatedly put in the hours watching it and keeping this thread going when all but a few of you were participating, and hope you enjoy the reflected glory now that fools of every beard colour are coming on board.
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!

The commentary was gas. Your man (I think it was Ian Bishop) went "Warm up the Guinness" when Ireland were within a couple of runs of the win.

was wrong about Bangladesh - but then Cricekt isnt my strong point!

What ye think - ireland could def give NZ a good game and beat the Netherlands? Sri Lanka look great though, man they are great at throwing the ball

In a way it's a pity the India game is completely meaningless (group placings in the Super 8s were pre-determined by ranking, not position, and no points are carried forward) as it may break the momentum. Niall O'Brien should be allowed to rest his injured ankle, with Gary Wilson taking over behind the stumps Paul Stirling should get a run, too.

Mooney looked ok but Wilson basically fluked his way to 10 runs or he is just lucky?

I don't rate Wilson in this format, but he is the other specialist wicket-keeper in the side so one would imagine he'd deputise. Although Jeremy Bray is an occasional keeper, not that he's doing any better with the bat.

i can understand why Irish players would want to declare for england for the test status etc that we dont have but surely when Ireland are in the same competition as england these lads should play for their original country or at least be allowed to?

Will Morgan play for England again? Don't understand why he gave up playing for Ireland for T20 as few enough games played in that format.

Irish Times said that points gained from India game tomorrow carry forward. Surely that is not correct or I misread.

In the one day world cup points from the group stage carried over to the Super 8. There's been a lot of confusion about what's going to happen in the 20/20 but it's been clarified that points do not carry over.

I presume Morgan saw it as a chance to impress the English selectors and push for a place on their one day and test squads.

Assume you work here (local council offices???).

Was at Trent Bridge yesterday on way home from Sofia. Not a cricket fan but a great day out. We were sitting right opposite that building in the New Stand and we were remarking that there was little work going on when you could see all the faces at the window.

One thing that pi**ed me off yesterday was that we are the only country in the 20/20 that does not have our national flag flying, and do not have the national anthem played. Like the rugby we had Ireland's Call (I really hate that song) but no anthem. After the game started they put up some flag which someone told me was the flag of the Irish Cricket Union.
Honest! I am not a secret Tim nor a closet Sham - I really am a Seagull.
