Went to see it Friday night. 8/10. Thought the main trio of Sam Rockwell, Colin Farrell and Christopher Walken were outstanding - as was Woody Harrelson. A bunch of real laugh out loud moments even if the story was a little weak. Have to say that Farrell is a really good actor when he's just doing his own accent.

Also watched Moonrise Kingdom tonight and thought it was a lovely little movie. Great cast but the great performances came from the young leads. Funny, quirky and heartwarming. 7/10

I'd be more impressed if it was in an autobiographical structure a la High Fidelity.

Fried Green Tomatoes at the weekend. Her pick again. I thought it was a nice movie, Good story and well acted. I have also now developed an interesting crush on Mary-Louise Parker...

Did you ever notice that in every painting of Adam & Eve, they have belly buttons. Think about that...take as long as you want.

Went to see "The Hobbit" yesterday. Good show but not as good as any of the L.O.T.R. films also a bit long at almost 3 hours resulting in it being dull in places. Are the 3 films going to be that long? Can't see how their gonna stretch the book into about 9 hours of film. What was the book about 300 page or so. Would give it 7/10

Watched Red Dawn this afternoon (when himself fell asleep). Kind of a cop out movie, blaming the North Koreans, poor ending, really weak acting for the most part. The original had a grittiness and acting quality that couldn't be matched, even if it was hilariously ott. But now, given the advances in technology, the wolverines would have been wiped out in a couple of days.

Not disappointed as I didn't expect much, but hoped for more. 3/10

they were originally Chinese, and then the flags were digitally altered to be North Korean, along with some other changes, so it could still be released in China. Guess they're not too bothered about releasing it in North Korea

Enjoyed both Seven Psychopaths and The Hobbit recently. I'm still not sold on 3D, don't think it added much to the Hobbit, having said that I was entertained despite the long running time and I'm looking forward to the sequels. It was a solid 7/10. Seven Psychopaths was one of the stranger films I've seen in a while but I really enjoyed it and there was a few great laugh out loud moments. Definitely worth checking out and probably a 7.5/10.

Saw 'Rust and Bone', 'The Guard' and 'Amour' recently. All worth checking out. 'The Guard' was a lot funnier than I'd originally anticipated and I thought Brendan Gleeson was excellent in it.

The other two films are a little more serious. 'Amour' is Michael Haneke's latest production and appears to be a regular topper of best-films-of-2012 lists. It looks at the relationship of an elderly couple as the health of the wife deteriorates rapidly subsequent to her suffering of a stroke. It wouldn't be a Haneke film if it didn't also play on our own insecurities and fears of ageing and the inevitable loss of independence that comes with it. Haneke is one of my favourite directors and this one's easier to digest than some of his other films, which can be psychologically merciless. That's not to say that 'Amour' doesn't have its moment either. I found it slow-moving at times although the complete absence of any music helps maintain focus. It simply isn't required to fill any emotional voids in what is a moving and beautifully-made film recorded solely in the apartment of the elderly couple with the exception of just one scene.

Still the greatest film ever made. Perfect.
