McCann, McCarthy, Garvan, O'Toole & Quinn could all feel similarly aggrieved. The case to pick Fahey over any of these isn't that compelling.

Nothing fickle about it. I've grown sick of the whole thing over the last few years and I make no apology for it. If you think it's better that I don't support Ireland, then I agree. Some of the attitudes expressed here (Not neccessarily yours btw) are one of the things that turned me off, if some people find me "objectionable" because of that, too bad. I'll just have to cry myself to sleep. And let me just state again, I know, as most LOI fans do I'm sure, that the players in the LOI are here because they didn't/couldn't make it in England. I know that they are not as good as the players in the International squad. We don't live in some sort of bubble you know. I watch some English football, some champions league, and yes, Irish internationals on TV. None of this has any bearing on which team I support. I take the old fashioned view. Proper supporters support their local team. I genuinely don't understand someone living in Dublin, Cork, Mayo or Derry who can refer to Man U, Liverpool, or Celtic as "we" and "us" with a straight face. When that attitude turns to hostility against local teams and their supporters then I get rightly peed off. Old ground, old debate, and off topic, I know. But there you go. And one last question. Do people not support the League of Ireland because it's crap, or is the league of Ireland crap because people don't support it ? See the connection ?
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.

So I should support the Chicago Fire and the US? I'd rather give up watching footy all together than support any MLS team or the US.

Tony, the vast majority of people did not make an adult decision on which club they want to support. By the time they reached their adult years almost all of us had already grown an affinity for a team. About 90% of LOI fans support their clubs because they are from the local area (Inchicore, Phibsboro, etc.), they were brought to games at a young age by family or friends, or the club is representing their town or city. There's not many of you that decided at the age of 25 that we should all be supporting an Irish team and then grew a love for a certain club.

I wish people would cop on to that. You can't tell a 10 year old why he shouldn't be supporting Man Utd and that's the age we all start supporting these clubs. And that's never going to change. I love Celtic now and I wouldn't dream about giving them up. It'd be like giving up the drink. It's not going to happen.

Tony, the local junior club at home played in a final in terryland there a couple of weeks ago(which they won ), its always been a strong soccer town, but also strong GAA as well. Anyway, 700 from home were at the game(as oppossed to the "local" team who only had about 300, even though only 2 miles away, probably galway united supporters ) supporting their local side, how many of them support Man United? Id say a lot, I know for sure even more support celtic(their own celtic as well as glasgow celtic ), but when it comes to the cruch they support THEIR LOCAL SOCCER club. Point being as Ive pointed out to so many LOI fans(most who seem to be supporters of Dublin clubs, for some reason?!) we do support our local clubs, unfortunately for you our local clubs are generally junior clubs, not LOI clubs some 45 miles away......not a ten minute bus ride on the 78a or the 19a....

Definitely. Fahey's a good bit down the pecking order. I think it just shows the options we have in centre mid at the moment though- he'd have been damn close to the squad a couple of seasons ago.
