Anybody know how it will work?

Will it be doubleheaders in Lansdowne Road? Will another ground eg RDS be used for the games not involving us?

Trying to segregate 4 sets of fans in one stadium would be a nightmare.

Joke of a setup was there for the Fai Cup final and hopefully we'll get back there this year but in all honestly its a joke.

The world's most underwhelming tournament ever.

Could we at least play some real countries?
And preferably teams that are actually better than us, rather than potentially, especially as there's plenty of the former!

Notwithstading we were under Stans managment at the tiime -we've recently enough played Wales, who's squad is probably the weakest or thinnest involved, in competition. We scraped a 1-0 win in Dublin and a 2-2 in Cardiff. The games in this will be plenty competitive.

The closer the tournament gets, the better I think it will. There will always be some level of rivalry between the nations and particularly between ourselves and our good friends up north.

It cant be any less competitive than home friendlies we have had in recent years against the likes of Norway etc.

Agreed. We've just played a "top nation" and it was a bland affair to say the least. Hopefully some semi competitive games against Wales, Scotland and the FAI Scouts' Rejects XI will provide some sort of an atmosphere.

I'm looking forward to this - as already mentioned, the Argentina match was as dull as dishwater, utterly irrelevant to player progression & served nothing except to fill the FAI's pockets and excite the passing casual supporter.

Something like the Celtic Cup has a chance of instilling some much needed local rivalry and passion in a corner of the game that has dropped off people's priorities (ie, the International game), not to mention giving our younger players valuable competitive minutes on the pitch. I'd value some crunching Northern Ireland tackles far above a dozen Messis coming to Lansdowne. People moan about the drop off of atmosphere at Irish soccer games - the Celtic Cup is a big step in bringing back that atmosphere.

Out of interest, will these games be considered as competitive or friendly fixtures for official purposes? Friendly, presumably...

Some consider it an injustice that Irish nationals can represent their country on the international football stage. Boycotting the tournament is perceived as an opportunity to highlight this injustice.

I'd imagine the association needs the money this tournament will generate. Non-story I think.

Fair enough. We can invite England in and get the tournament everybody outside the north secretly really wants.

Just like their neighbors then, albeit for different reasons. Maybe you've been spoiled by regular friendlies with Argentina and Brazil and think other small teams are beneath you? It reminds me a bit of the last full international between us, when thousands of Dubs stayed away because there was a British club game on TV.

Indeed, it's just fans (a lot of them, admittedly) saying they won't turn up. They might not have thronged anyway- any two of NI, Scotland and Wales playing in a near-empty Lansdowne isn't exactly going to kick start the Celtic tiger.

Ha ha. I'm sure England are just dying to play in what they see as a half-hearted revival of the Home Internationals. They probably don't fancy the risk of the game being abandoned either. Ditto the Garda.
