    Tropic Thunder

Went to see this tonight, have to say that it is genuinely the craziest movie I've seen in a long time, very funny, but absolutely nuts. Stiller, Downey Jr (especially) and Tom Cruise (I know) play their parts very well, and the only weak link is Jack Black (who is rubbish as per usual)

Anyone else been to see it yet?

Twas utter ****e, in my opinion, the people I saw it with who many would consider to have a 'more sophiticated' sense of humor, agreed with me, to a lesser degree though

I've heard it's average (Total Film and Empire both gave it 3 stars out of 5). Still going to see it though. I did go to see RockNRolla last Sunday and that was average!!!

Are all the others going to be scientoligists now so yeah?
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Hard to call these kinda films, seemed very average in parts but also had me
in stitches in other parts. Worth going to see.

For Tom Cruise's character ... I actually thought it was the guy from Arrested
    Development for a while!

    Saw it and Pineapple Express.
PE is consistently funny, I never stopped laughing along, but I thought Tropic Thunder had more laugh out loud moments.

Saw both films yesterday (slow day in Derry). Thought TT was pretty crap; the acting quality in it just about made it passable but then again the acting talent should still have been far, far better.

Tom Cruise was good in it but he can play the craziest character in the world and it won't compare to the real life moron behind it. Yeah, it's a film and you're supossed to forget the actor's real life but it's pretty hard when it's Cruise.

Also, what was the point of Jack Black?

PE was immeasurably better I thought. The characters were far more real, unlike their TT counterparts who were mere caricatures and they managed to pull off an action-packed comedy- something Get Smart also tried this month and failed miserable at. The jury's still out on Seth Rogan's acing for me, as he's been more or less the same character in both films I've seen him in (the other being the excellent Knocked Up) but he was immensely more likeable than anyone in TT (even the usually brilliant Robert Downey Junior).

Another thing I noticed is that where TT ran from joke to joke like a deranged child worried it's parent would lose their attention if it didn't shout at them every 12 seconds, regardless of it's worth, PE had scenes that lasted for 10 minutes or so at times, allowing you to see the characters talk far more normally, and be funny far more naturalistically than the big 'punchlines' of TT that far too often fell flat.

While TT had it's moments it was really just a series of sketches that for all it's posturing only proved that empty vessals make the most noise. And as for the "satire" in it- yeah we get it, actors can be prima donnas, they can be spoilt and they can have drug addictions...it's hardly a razor sharp commentary on the movie business. Maybe there was a funny, hard-hitting movie in it but it's been sanitised and sanitised and sanitised. PE was funnier, more likeable, better acted and the sort of film you could watch again. Don't waste your money on TT.

I saw it and thought it was quite funny, like with a lot of his films it will be better the 2nd or 3rd time you see it i think, i didnt pay for it either so that might be a factor too
