Apologies, it was John O'Brien, not Dion Fanning.

wouldn't be related to the fact that Denis O'Brien owns 18% of Independent News & Media and is trying to oust the board?

I'd say this has a lot to do with Denis O'Brien's donation. Tony O'Reilly (Eircom Chairman) beat Denis O'Brien to the purchase of Eircom who happen to be the FAI sponsors. Nice way for Denis O'Brien to have a little dig at O'Reilly. Hopefully, the FAI don't lose their sponsors over this. It seems that O'Brien will be attempting a hostile take over of Indep. News & Media (owned by O'Reilly).

I just hope this does not end in tears for the FAI, considering they actually didn't need the cash. Why the hell wasn't O'Brien directed to putting the money straight into grassroots in the first place?

Yes I am well aware of why the Independent as an axe to grind with DOB. My point is that anything its so called journalists write about this matter has to be viewed sceptically beacause of this. They have an agenda which they will push regardless of what the facts are.

Indeed it did....and as a result of that we had to enjure Arnold O'Byrne appearing on the Late late etc and being feted as " Ireland's best supporter" like he was the saviour when all he did was spend in a very clever manner part of Opel's world wide marketing budget....at least DOB is spending his own money

my point is that there is a precedent for sponsorship or handouts to be used to pay for a manager by the FAI and other associations. only the Irish could turn what has happened into a negative. we have ended up with a manager beyond our wildest dreams yet some on here would depress anyone to tears with the negativity of the comments. unbelieveable. i thought anyone posting here was actually a supporter of Irish football

THE O Brien thing is right dodgy, money from a crook, god the FAI have no shame
Its going to be some fall out when this goes all arse up

I am getting a bit sick of all the carry on with the national team, so i have decided, since i have recently moved to Dublin, to start looking into the LOI again. So Im looking forward to the start of the Eircom League and let the band wagon stick with the national team

You're welcome aboard, and feck the bugrudgers. I can heartily recommend Richmond Park for the coming season, if you're not affilliated elsewhere.

I think you can support the LOI and the International team. They are not exclusive of each other.

IN the wrong forum ifyou have no interest, you must have some interest if you are logging in and viewing threads in the national team forum.

absolutely hillarious. i can only assume this refers to the non existance of some eircom lge players in the team (given that 90% of the Irish team are Irish born)? remind me again how jason byrne and george ocallaghan got on in the championship accross the water? these players were two of the lges shining lights and are now on the way back to Ireland with their tails between their legs. if they couldnt make it in that bog standard of football do you really think they are international class?

Jbyrne while some of your point may be correct, how the hell do they have their tails between their legs. That would only make sense if they slagged the LOI after they left etc.

I think you "only assumed" incorrectly there. Maybe you should go read the actual post instead of pushing your own agenda. Lots of English Premier League players have been failures abroad. Does that mean the Premier League is sh*te?
