yeah good man slice them in half. great man for the solutions aren't you.
in fact they will never play on the same day. as the u21's never played on the same day as the first team last year. the first team will play most of their games on a friday, as usual. A league games will be on a sat/sun. according to well informed sources the u20 league won't start until september (A league plate starts in march/april). when u20 starts games will not be held on the same days as either first team / A league games.

who said that. here you go with stupid half-baked comments to try and make a mountain out of a molehill. if they get injured playing for the A team they are treated in the exact same way as they would be if injured for first team or u20 team (or in training) because that is who they are signed up for in the first place anyway. did you not read my post

if this is true there is no need for any additional appointments for this team. players or management. he should gather a team from whatever players didn't get a game for either first team and u20s and then make do. from march till September this will be very easy as full compliment of u20s will be playing exclusively for this team with whatever players TC wants to play getting in ahead of their u20 counterpart.

all this team needs to do is fulfill the fixtures, results are 100% insignificant. it will allow fringe players to play football against other high quality players. it will create the bridge between u20 and senior for the younger lads.

the overall aim of the A league is to help the progression and also those coming back from injury / not getting a run with the first team. with that in mind why on earth would players be signed exclusively for the league?????

it will be a big ask for Cobh and Harps especially, perhaps a moratorium should have been given to the promoted clubs for the first year anyway as survival is their only target for the coming year, future player development is not even an issue at this point in time for either club I would have thought.

UCD as an established premier division club should be able to cope. they have known for a couple of seasons it is coming. i can only assume that they will use one of their many teams in the college to fulfill fixtures.

Would these clubs not have had an under 21s team if the league was run under last season's set-up? If so, what's the difference with the A League team? If anything it'll take less work as any player who doesn't play in the first team game can play without having to worry about age restrictions. The difference this year is that clubs have to have an under 20s team later in the year but this can be made up of A League players and local young players who probably wouldn't be paid. I don't see what the big fuss is about tbh.

agree totally Schumi. also more fringe players will be able to play as it won't be restricted to 3 overage players like u21 was. a big complaint for clubs was that fringe players weren't able to play games against other players of a similar standard. the u21 league was nowhere near the standard of player you will meet in the eLoI PL with a lot of teams populated with 17 year olds. battle hardened LoI players were gaining little or nothing playing in these games and managers were unable to judge them fairly playing against kids.

i just think that some people love to moan and complain anyway so there is no point in talking with any kind of logic......

Spot on. We probably field more teams than any other club in the league, so we can easily bump up one of the LSL teams to fill the U-20 gap. And all for a cost significantly less than E100k...

    All.

No licences have been awarded yet for 2008.

Some posts above and in other threads are just opinion & speculation from clubs/supporters that they themselves think they may have made the cut.

They already went through a licencing process to get into the A league. I assume they'll have to meet the First Division criteria now, though perhaps with a bit of lee-way given the short notice for them.

the process for an A championship licence is do you have 11 players. ok your in.If the fai are serious about using licensing to raise the bar then no club should be allowed in at any level until they achieve there required licence otherwise it continues to be the joke it is.

It would be hilarious if the FAI invited them in, then chucked them out for not meeting licensing!

Jesus, that club they turned down must have been really **** so. Have you actually read that licensing document, or are you just talking out of your arse?

What area do you think Sporting Fingal would fail on in a First Division application ?

Tax and wages seem to be what eveyone else fails on and having never kicked a ball I think they are ok!!

the FAI press release after SF were invited said that 'as the highest points scorer in the recent IAG process for the A-Championship Sporting Fingal were now being invited to join the First Division'... from this it is safe to assume that they already know where their application is and are well placed to advise them what further criteria they now need to meet to get a first division license.

It's hardly just a wild panic or stab in the dark. Team gets thrown out of the league, FAI ask IAG of the 4 teams accepted into the A-Championship which is nearest to (or indeed capable already of) meeting the criteria for the 1st Division. IAG tell them SF...

.... but sure why pass up an opportunity to have a dig at the FAI/eL at any chance, warranted or unwarranted....
