No worries. If he does half as well as Stokes then it'll have been a good move.

Well spotted Boovidge.£500,000 apparantly, bargain for Stoke but he was out of contract in June so SW had to sell. They have signed Kavanagh as his replacment.

Irish Abroad site updated with January transfers. Please let me know if I've missed anyone
    Andy Reid to Sunderland
    Billy Dennehy returns from loan
Graham Kavanagh out on loan to Sheffield Wednesday
Nicky Colgan and David Norris to Ipswich
    George O'Callaghan to Cork City
Shane Supple and Billy Clarke on loan to Falkirk
Alan Maybury on loan to Aberdeen
Alan Sheehan on loan to Leeds
Incidentally, all of Leicester's Irish players (Conrad Logan, Alan Maybury, Alan Sheenan and Jonathan Hayes) are now out on loan, the only senior Irish player at the Walker's Stadium is loanee Clive Clarke!
Jim O'Brien on loan to Dundee United
    Gary Dempsey to St Pat's
    Henry McStay to Morecambe
    Glen Whelan to Stoke

    Statistics for January 2008: http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/january.xquery
Senior squad omittance Noel Hunt won more games than any other player in the squad
Damien Duff was substituted more than any other midfielder, and only Sean Scannell was substituted the same number of times
Robbie Keane did not complete 90 minutes at home in January
Considering John O'Shea was the most introduced substitute up until the end of December, he wasn't introduced from the bench once in January. However, he did remain on the bench more than any other defender
Only one defender scored in January - Gary Doherty. He was also booked more than any other defender
From the strikers in the Brazil squad, only Robbie Keane and Daryl Murphy scored
Andy Keogh scored as many goals in January as he did in the whole of the rest of the season
No Irish player scored a penalty in January
Lee Carsley was booked more than any other player, which is strange considering he had not been booked in the season prior to that
Robbie Keane's goals led to the most wins (three), but Noel Hunt and Andy Keogh were more likely to end on the winning side. Both Hunt and Keogh won the 2 games they scored in, whereas Keane lost once in the four games in which he scored

Yep Whelan to Stoke and Kavanagh (ironic bearing in mind his Stoke years) to Wednesday on loan

    http://www.swfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page...230543,00.html

Not a step up for Whelan so very disappointed to see him go. Kavanagh can do a job though still for Wednesday I think.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Yeah... Dissapointed meself.... I was hoping there was some truth in the Reading and Bolton speculation for Whelan..
I pity the fool!.... But suggest ways that he might improve himself.

I see where you're coming from but Stoke are right up there in the mix for promotion, I'm afraid the Owls aren't. It's not a full step up, but at least half of one.

Irish Abroad for Saturday, 2nd February 2008: http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroa...ate=2008-02-02

Steve Finnan picked up his first booking of the season
Robbie Keane still has not completed a home game for Spurs since the UEFA Cup game against Aalborg in November! The last league game he played 90 minutes in was in October!
Kevin Kilbane scored his first goal of the season, in his 60th appearance for Wigan
Leon Best scored a brace for the second time this season, and completed his first 90 minutes in a league game in a month
Jay Tabb notched his fourth goal of the season. This was the first home win in which he scored, the other games were a draw and a loss
Damien Delaney has started every game since his move to QPR which is a good sign of things to come
Alan Quinn scored his first goal for Ipswich in only his second game
Alan Lee scored his first goal since December 15th
James O'Connor scored his first of the season
Leon McSweeney opened his account for Stockport in only his third start for the Hatters
Darren O'Dea made his first appearance for Celtic since December 11th

Strange move this. The season doesn't start until April so he'll be waiting a while for competitive football. Standard of football in Superettan isn't great either - comparably to our own first division IMO.

Scotland Need To Get Stars Younger, Says Dutch Rookie Barry Maguire
    Feb 8 2008

SCOTLAND'S Under-19 kids were taught a lesson on Wednesday night by a Dutch kid called Barry Maguire.

Holland ran out 2-1 winners in a friendly win at Broadwood and the FC Den Bosch midfielder's name shouldn't lead to confusion over his nationality. The playmaker, born in Holland to a Dutch mother and Irish father, warned that unless Scottish clubs start blooding players at a younger age we'll always come up short when matched against Europe's elite.

Maguire said: "I think we're stronger and more physical than the Scots. That comes from playing a lot of first-team football. I'm 18 but I've been playing first-team football for two years

"Most of the guys in the Holland side are playing first-team football and that was definitely the difference. If the Scottish guys can get more experience then I'm sure all that will come."
