If we score in the first ten minutes then it's on. The counter game is completely gone though.
Get Azaz off, he started well but his decision making has been brutal from the 10th minute

Molumby’s trailing leg had him onside

One thing I will say is we're in a game here. Hungary steamrollered us for the first half in Lansdowne. Armenia outplayed us in Yerevan. In Portugal it was attackers v defenders. Even at home to Armenia was insipid stuff until they had the guy sent off.

But we played brilliantly against Portugal, and we're doing alright here too. It feels like a bit of progress even 2-1 down here

    Yep.. bang on the button..

I want Ireland to win this.. but if we're all honest, the odds are we were never expected to win..

The last few games though are showing, we're not far off the Hungary team.. which is probably 1st/2nd in Nations League level

We just need to be finding ways of beating teams like Armenia away.. that's the result killing us today

But it's nice to be watching a game with something on it again

Watching it in real time I was screaming at Collins for stepping off like that. No idea what he thought he was doing. Quality finish but if Collins is tight to him it doesn’t happen.

Azaz and Scales have really struggled. Ogbene has been fantastic. Not sure why we need to go a goal down to start getting on the front foot either. Szoboszlai slows it down for them but there’s a really obvious way to nullify that.

    Shocking defending for both goals.

Hungary are no great shakes but at 1-1 we were standing off them like they were the 1970 Brazilian side. Only started to play when we were 2-1 down. At 1-1 we should have applied tried to get on the front foot, apply some pressure and take advantage of any doubts on their side. Wasted opportunity.

Still in this. I’d bring on Manning for Scales and McGrath for Azaz. Score the next goal and we’re very much in it

RTE commentator said he felt about two years older after 15 minutes of the match. I know how he feels.

Ray Houghton is the master of stating the obvious but I get irritated by players giving little pushes or shirt pulls like at the end by Collins and O'Shea, if a goal was scored VAR would rule it out, its a total waste of opportunity. Ok maybe deeper it happens but in the box???

This is going to go down as a missed opportunity campaign. Made really hard work for ourselves early on, got back in to the group the hardest of ways and while the 2nd Hungarian goal was a super strike Collins backing off is questionable again. I think the 1st goal was offside. Weve dropped off in performance but these are beatable. Hopefully urgency and intensity from Ireland will repeat the Aviva type 2nd half performance.

*yup 1st goal was good, fine magins.

I’d be alright with those changes. I’d instruct Parrott to stick to Szobososzlai when they win it back too. Push Azaz/McGrath and Ogbene to press.

My prediction, we go at them as we can when we can throw caution to the win. We equalise but miss out. We'll reflect on the improvements and look forward.

The game and situation is highlighting our midfield issues. We can cover it by playing more of a counter attacking game against the likes of Portugal who we know will come at us. But when we got back to 1-1 in this game we needed to be putting the foot down, but we just don't have the midfield to do it. We'll have to have a go now but will leave ourselves open to being picked off the way Denmark did in the 5-1 game in 2017. We got a lot poorer after that, now we've gotten better again, but the constant throughout is the lack of quality in midfield.

Ogbene's hamstring gone. That could be almost an international career-ender given how recently he had a similar injury

Idah has a lot to do here to make up for Thursday. Let's hope he's up to it.

Kenny and Festy coming on for Molumby and Coleman

This feels like giving up. Or potentially like O'Neill giving up shape for attacking chances against Denmark

    Prove me wrong!

I think it’s just kitchen sink time. As likely to finish 5-1 as 2-2…can’t see us winning in any scenario here.

Game is so scrappy if we do score in the next 10 minutes they’re going to fall apart. But we’re just as likely to concede at this stage.

Our inability to hang on to the ball is really a major malfunction in international football.
We haven't a prayer now or anytime soon untill we find a player or else a system that resolves that. Hungary have it easy here
