Reynolds seems to be potential appointment that would make sense for working under Fenlon as DOF while having experience and credibility in any coaching or managerial role. Rennie was rated very highly at Shels as Ian Morris's assistant during our immediate bounce back First Division title winning season in 2021

The whole Director of Football thing has always seemed strange to me, particularly if he is signing the players. Has it ever worked ? For me, a manager just has to be in charge of recruitment. Very unfair to judge a manager with a squad that someone else has chosen.

Fenlon was a successful DOF when he was at Waterford. It worked out really well. Things started to fell apart after he left, then Power lost interest. Power being outed in the UK ultimately led to him selling us.

Alot of Linfield fans said the same when he was up North.

Fenlon is bound to want someone he can work with after Devine and Reynolds has proven he can do that.

I see crusaders have appointed D Cadell as manager when Paddy Mclaughlin looked to be in with a strong shout. Could be a strong consideration for the Bohs job. Probably not first choice but if you don't get the man you want, you have to take second choice, or third choice like the last time.

I think the point of a DoF is it's a middle man to allow the directors (running the club) keep a check on the manager - arguably player recruitment is the single most important thing about a football club, and giving one person carte blanche over it is a bit of a risk. A manager can presumably make a recommendation, but the DoF can veto it if the player is crap or wanting way more than he's worth.

The manager then is more often a head coach these days in reality.

AFAIK its mainly in view towards the academy side of things. In not sure what elements of his job if any involve the first team tbh.

Ger O'Brien was head of the academy/Director of football for the academy but was made Director of Football for the whole club in general at the end of January when Stephen Elliott was appointed head of the academy. Bit mentioning it here

Considering you also have a head of academy in place I doubt that O'Brien is only overseeing the academy. Even if he was you also have Alan Matthews as a technical director... It seems there are many more people involved in the first team decision making than just John Daly.

As said already I think it�s quite different. I don�t think he�s signing players. And I�d be saying the exact same thing if he was/is.

Well Im not as clued in as I used to as working away from home during the week so dont have time to check this out. Im entitled to ask a simple question. Thats last time Im going to comment on this .

He was mentioned in the Indo as a potential candidate so make of that what you will along with Reynolds, O'Donnell (strange one tbh), Kenny, Ian Barraclough and Curtis Flemming.
Still early days so names are being thrown around to fill columns but my hope is someone is announced the week of the Rovers game and gives the squad and fans a much needed boost. There were boos at the first game v Sligo which really puts into perspective how people felt coming into the season.

Just been told Kenny was at the Bohs training ground today.
