As tweeted by the FAI, 21 years today since Holland's goal against Cameroon.
It really was a great finish, I'd say 8 or 9 out of 10 times you watch players try that they pull the ball a yard or more wide of the post. He caught it perfectly. I've watched it about 10 times this morning and picked up on something I've never noticed before - maybe it's just me overwatching it at this point - but the ball seems to take a surprisingly flat second bounce before he hits it, it meant that it just sat up nicely for him.
Somewhat depressing that we now have Ireland supporters in their late 20s who aren't old enough to remember us play at a World Cup, I know myself having seen us play three of them, I definitely took it for granted at the time. Three qualifications out of the group as well, we didn't know we were living.
Hopefully with 16 European places now and us consistently ranking in the top 16 across the various underage groups, we won't have to wait another 21 years for this.

That's a damn fine goal. Holland played well for us. Good player with a fine playing record for Ipswich ~ Didn't miss many games for them ~ Consistent and lucky with injuries.
Ten years since Giovanni Trapattoni's last game in charge, a 1-0 loss to Austria
10 years since Noel King's first game in charge of the team, a 3-0 loss to Germany.
Notable also because, even though 12 substitutes were named(St Ledger, McGeady, Long, Keane, McClean, Green, Elliot, Pilkington, Reid, Hoolahan, O'Brien, and Henderson) none were used, and it is the 500th international played by the national side
Didn't post it yesterday, but it was 50 years since John Giles' first game as Ireland manager, a 1-0 win against Poland, with Miah Dennehy scoring the winner. Terry Mancini also made his debut in this game

The past is a different country ~ ~ Especially the video !
Twenty years since Andy Reid and John Thompson made their international debuts in a 3-0 win against Canada
Interesting that Wales a goal from a long throw today against Armenia ~ Tis a great weapon ~ Always amazes me that more teams / players don't make more use of it.
I wonder are some players worried about doing their backs, while doing the long throws / practicing the long throws.
Five years today since Michael Obafemi made his debut in Martin O'Neill's final game in charge
