Hard not to get emotional watching those interviews post match. Magnificent.
We've qualified for the World Cup. Go in and compete!

Great day to be Irish. May not be exciting to watch but it's all about getting results and qualifying for major tournaments. Other teams will be sitting at home and their pretty football won't be much consolation to them. The women will have a great time in Australia or New Zealand and may even suprise some people.
Is there anyone questioning the Irish women's team style of play or saying things like I'd rather we didn't qualify than to serve up that dross?
No I didn't think so either.
Well done to the girls and hopefully they'll get a good following from the expats in aus if they are drawn there.
I'm a bloke,I'm an ocker
And I really love your knockers,I'm a labourer by day,
I **** up all me pay,Watching footy on TV,
Just feed me more VB,Just pour my beer,And get my smokes, And go away
Thanks Paul for your positive input!Pauw has the team play to its strengths and that is good enough for me. Just like with Big Jack.
Saw some hight-lights ~ Good goalkeeping from the Irish Keeper ~ Good goal, nice finish ~ Great long throw weapon from the Irish side ~ The high-lights were entertaining anyway ~ Congratulations to the Irish Womens Team.
Draw isn't too far away either - Sunday, 22nd October
exactly what place does chanting the name of a terrorist organization have in celebrating a sporting achievement?
given all the tributes and dedications that were made around last nights match to the victims of last weeks tragedy their chant is sadly ironic given what those they are chanting about did to hundreds of innocent civilians.
mentioned as role models for others in this mornings radio reports...... this action badly betrays those sentiments imo.
was delighted at last nights achievement but this action is a very poor reflection I am afraid.
Played very well last night, took the chance when it came and stood up well in the following 20 minutes, didn't give Scotland much of a sniff. It's not pretty football at times, but that make it hard for teams nominally better than them, and that will be important next summer you feel.
Tbh I didn't give the team much of a chance after the results started to come in in the group stage, the whole process seemed so convuluted and difficult for sides like Ireland, so this result is all the more remarkable and praise worthy, a real defining moment for women's football in this country.
But jeez, this nonsense with the chanting. Bad enough chanting "Up the 'Ra" like some stupid teenager adding lyrics to "The Fields Of Athenry", but in Glasgow. They couldn't have picked a better way to turn the positive headlines negative.

Completely meant it as positive, theres sinister nefarious elements who would poo poo a style of play than seeing us achieve big dreams of WC qualification. They know who they are.
When I read that this morning about those chants I thought oh girls ye conducted yerselves so well, great interviews, articulate and well spoken and then all undone by a few singing silly chants.

Over-excited, not thought out and silly but so what? it's not the end of the world. They didn't mean it and let's let them celebrate. They've apologised, let's move on.
Also, whoever videoed that and put it on social media should get a slap!

Is it for the Royal and Ancient Golf ?
The very quick and multiple mea culpas from those involved is a fairly evident indication that they know it was a stupid thing to be seen singing, and will help in terms of drawing a line underneath a very regrettable addition to the great result. I'm not going to get into a debate on how much we should or shouldn't be praising the IRA as an historical entity that at one time represented the military forces of a democratically elected government, as a terrorist organisation, as a semi-organised group of murderers or whatever else anyone thinks the various subcategories and spin-offs were or are. What I will say is that entitles like the WNT need to be a bit savvier about how they conduct themselves. They really are in the big time now.

The account name of the player who live streamed it is at the top of the video. Can't see any player being allowed to stream from the dressing room again.
Remember the photos of the players with the President after beating Bosnia? That's basically all that will be permitted from now on.

I get the whole being caught up in the moment of it. But it’s heedlessness in this day and age to be singing that 5hite anyway I’m sure the same players learned eeny eeny miny mo catch a tiger by the toe, not the saltier version some of us did, and they wouldn’t be caught dead doing the old one. Amber Barret (all hail!) being a teacher would definitely know that. So they know what’s what, and what to avoid especially in sectarian Scotland – imagine the outrage we’d have if the Scots team started into ‘the famine is over, why don’t you go home?’ in their dressing room. Heedlessness, not malice.
But they can’t be get a free pass for it. I’ve a PR background – I’d have it f%&!ing drilled into them: That. Song. Is. Out. You don’t make a cross for your own back.
No surprise, though, to see professional contrarians wilfully out of step and bigging up the IRA in response.
Hello, hello? What's going on? What's all this shouting, we'll have no trouble here!
