Gaffney is injured and likely out for the season. Morrissey has been struggling with injuries too.

Good to see but he has a long way to go yet before we start getting too excited.

We can start a thread for him if/when he makes his first team debut, same as with every other underage player
otherwise we'd be starting threads for every youth player who signs for a club outside the LOI

    Ryan Patrick Nolan

Tets, feel free to move this. Can't see an existing thread and I presume he's at least half-Irish, so his eligibility shouldn't be a problem...

Ryan Patrick Nolan, County Clare teenager, signs for Inter Milan.

    Sign him up MON etc...

Nolan, who was brought up in Spain but has Irish parents, has until now been on the books of Spanish side Torre-Pacheco, but he has been tracked by bigger clubs and Inter, managed by Roberto Mancini (pictured), have lured him to Milan signing him on a three-year deal which was brokered by former Italy and Chelsea star Pierluigi Casiraghi. Nolan, 15, has never been capped, at any level, by the Republic but FAI scouts will this week follow up on the teenager and confirm his eligibility and his interest, if any, in playing for Ireland.

While Liam Brady and Robbie Keane obviously had spells in the first team at Inter, only a handful of Irish players have spent time in the academies of Italian clubs.

Doubt he's a very urgent case. Who does he qualify for? Spain? There are academies all over Spain producing players that are probably of similar (some of better) standards to Inter's.

If Danny's inquiries are anything to go by, Nolan would only be eligible for Spain if FIFA made a specific ruling on him (which would probably go in his favour if he's been there since he was nine).

I assume Nolan (born in Ireland to two Ireland-born parents) is currently eligible for Ireland only, unless he has a grandparent or grandparents from somewhere other than Ireland.

In principle and in line with article 7 of the Regulations Governing the Application of the Statutes, he'd first have to acquire Spanish nationality to ever become eligible for Spain. Possibly he already is a Spanish citizen. If he sought to play for Spain before five years of residence there post the age of 18, as is required by article 7(d), he/the Spanish association would have to apply to the FIFA administration/Players Status Committee for an extra-legal exemption to be made so that the article 7(d) criterion be waived. Further info on this here: http://foot.ie/threads/147164-Eligib...=1#post1805274

Charlie is correct to say that the likelihood of an exemption being granted is high considering he's lived in Spain for over half a decade, although any exemption would be dependent on Nolan already being a Spanish citizen.

Irrespective of all of this, however, he'd remain eligible to play for Ireland under article 5 as Irish is his birth nationality.

Edit: Until he was (hypothetically) capped competitively at senior level by someone else, effected a switch between two other associations for whom he also might be eligible or effected a switch to another association after first having represented Ireland competitively at under-age level, of course.

I honestly don't know where to begin if someone who was born and bred in Ireland to Irish parents contemplates choosing Spain over Ireland.

Jack Harper was born and bred in Spain and there is no question of his allegiance to Scotland.

His father says that if he is still overlooked at U21 level for Scotland that he will consider playing for Spain.

85% of Scottish Daily Record readers think Adam Rooney deserves Ireland call up on the back of his Scottish League exploits. despite failing to score in a brothel while playing in League One and League Two.

He's no Wayne Rooney, that's for sure.

I had to check the rules on this topic but I think I'm safe ground - just couldn't put it in his own thread - Jack Grealish has made his first Premier League start against QPR and appeared to play quite well, according to the BBC text, before being replaced by Joe Cole on 70 minutes. Ciaran Clark also starts for Villa, with Shay Given on the bench. Reece Grego-Cox is on the subs' list for QPR but hasn't come on yet
