Why wouldnt Newmarket try and sign Gary. He's a class act. They have provincial and national title ambition! They have brought in top players from Crusheen, Shannon, Connolly and Ennis. They won the Under 19s last season. They got to the semi of the Munster Junior last year. They are doing things right. I heard they might be after Darrag Corry from Tulla also. St. Michaels will have to bring their A-game on Sunday. I'll go for a 2-0 win for the Village and friends

Lads let's put a stop to the nonsense. Gary is not signing for Newmarket, Rhys you were fed a line and ran with it. As for Darragh he isn't coming either. We have a lot of young fellas coming through that have a lot of promise and we will do things in our club our way which includes a succession plan by the committee and team managers. The players that have joined Newmarket have done so out of choice and for numerous reasons including personal. And they are welcome.

We also have a lot of good young fellas coming through and along with the interest being shown by other players disillusioned with the lack of planning by their own clubs it is now a serious consideration that a 3rd adult team in Newmarket will be playing next season. So lads keep an eye on yere own clubs before ye go posting hearsay here.

Circuspony I am ipmressed with your confidence but we all know the task on Sunday is massive. Even being in the 5th round is huge progress for us considering we suffered the ignominy of going out last year in the 3rd round to a 3rd division team. Everything that can go right will need to go right on Sunday.

Also good luck to Bridge Utd on Sunday as they have also a massive task on Sunday.
    I'll update this next year.

oh sweet ........ - self satisfying post there First!! - football usually goes in circles , NOF are on a good run at the moment , but with the additional mercenaries ye have aquired ye should last for a another year or two , cast you mind back to the Rats , top team but no loyalty - - could history repeat itself in NOF ?
    - as you mentioned Rovers showed ye up only last year - hopefully Michaels will have the flood lights on but bring the torchs just in case

Planners, you keep posting that line it helps to keep us focussed on what not to do, Rats and Rovers are perfect examples of that.
As for your other comment, you have me there I can't defend the indefensible.
    I'll update this next year.

I suppose if you look at the NOF team now its really made up of former Rover / Avenue / ANO players - i may have mentioned it before but do NOF need outside players to achieve ? can they not source a decent squad in Newmarket alone ? - maybe the answer is in the question !
    Best of luck Sunday

jealousy can be hard to take.

Of course it is better to have local home grown talent, but when does this and success come hand in hand...very rarely. From what I know they are looking to the future with the 19's which will help them long term to build on their recent success
What people should really be looking at is why do all these players or mercenaries want to go to a club like NOF, that is the model they other clubs should look at as it is one measure of success.

I am sure NOF could have a 'decent ' squad built locally, but why settle for decent when it can be much much more....set you targets high , unless of course you are happy with decent...are you happy with playing in a 'decent' team for a number of years.....

Not sure where your going there TFU - jealousy is not something this consortium do -
the mercenaries go to a club like NOF because they are up and coming and can see a handy cup or league but all it does it take the heart & loyalty out of the club - i,m not suggesting NOF have lost their heart / loyalty - - - yet !!!
i did play with NOF in the past and other teams but other members of this consortium managed to stick to one club - - nothing wrong with that IMO

Daragh Corry leaving Tulla, Father being the manager and plans in motion for the next couple of years in Tulla, Brigdale going the other direction is more likely if Newmarket keep getting players in, few wanabe journalist making up headlines here

Whatever about the Newmarket result, getting beaten by Corofin and conceding 7 is a disaster for Avenue. I know Corofin have improved a lot but what's going on? Hard luck to Newmarket. St Michael's are a class act. Unfortunately I didn't make the game so does anyone have a report of the game?

Shame for Avenue, it's a decent club, nice facilities, with a good underage setup. Junior team is struggling by the looks of it reckon they'll stay up this season still B team might get promoted so there could be one of the two junior teams playing premier football next season.

why do you refer to the players as mercenaries? there is no financial gain for them, maybe you should ask santa for a dictionary this year

you have me confused with your reference to 'consortium', are you speaking on behalf of the other forumites or is it something else?

To suggest that NOF will lose heart and loyalty is a shallow thought, they are seeming to be doing things right, have a very good manager in place, very good players, good team ethos, good set up, decent pitch and have local people involved, the possibility of trophies on the way.

How come you played with NOF and other teams in the past? how many handy trophies did you win?

It gets annoying when people knock what other clubs are doing, why because they are successful (well NOF have been to date in the league) and some just can't wait for them to falter....

interesting thread to read the last few weeks
local soccer, or any level of soccer goes thru, cycyle or phases where a team comes good for a few years and then drops away.
newmarket, bunratty and avenue in the last 10 years, with the likes of rineanna and bridge united challenging as well
its newmarkets time at the moment but unlike rineanna and bunratty where they went to the wall because of nothing coming up from underage leve or b teams
the longevity that ave/nof at the top level have had are a credit.

Why shouldn't Newmarket sign players from other places/clubs if they want to improve themselves and push on for honours outside of Clare? Big teams in Limerick do it, so why shouldn't they?? If the players want to go to them they are obviously doing something right, as Two Feet Up said it is the measure of success as players want to win things. I just hope they can keep all there 'Galacticos' happy, as I'm sure none of them are going to want to sit on the bench. Talk of Daragh Corry and Garry Higgins signing too, where can you fit them all haha. Very unlucky in the FAI at the weekend losing to an injury-time goal against the best Junior side in the country, best of luck to them for the rest of the season!

i'm not going to defend my comments as they are an opinion , free expressions and all that jazz -

Best of luck to NOF - unlucky in the FAI but as mentioned before at least they progressed further than last year -
