Babb did indeed win one in his second season with Sporting.

On a side note, when I went to wikipedia to check, I discovered he's now the manager of Hayes & Yeading.

I'd say given the choice, McGeady would move to Everton in January and quickly forget about a possible Russian league title medal.
The sooner he settles into a new challenge the better. He has stuff to learn and not a lot of time left to learn it.

Can't remember where I read it, but one of the newspapers said it was "understood" that both clubs and McGeady were in favour of an immediate transfer but obviously that would involve negotiation over the fee, which Spartak will understandably want to hold out on. Everton are notorious for driving the hardest bargain, so I wouldn't be surprised if this one went to deadline day.

Robbie encouraging McGeady's move to Everton. Having three of our possible starting midfield at one club can't be but good for Ireland.

Gibson could find it very difficult to break back in if Everton/Man City make the Barry deal permanent, which I assume is pretty likely.

I don't know how these things actually work.
I'd hazard a guess that either Everton pay off Spartak and sign McGeady now or Everton use the same money to secure McGeady's name on a pre-contract.
But Everton won't pay twice for the privilege, i.e. pay off Spartak and also a large signing on fee for McGeady, just to have him available now.
I'd say if McGeady signs now, he would get a vastly reduced signing-on fee and no increase in salary.
Much work to do for his agent, I presume, but I'm more inclined to believe that the decision (contract or pre-contract) is with McGeady.

Holtby at Spurs is the most recent instance of a pre-contract turning into an immediate transfer, to the best of my knowledge.

One thing I would say, is that in recent times Everton have suffered due to a paper-thin squad. The added impetus of a new signing such as McGeady could well serve to counter-act this and provide that extra bit of immediate competition to their current wing options- which wouldn't be quantifiable in strict monetary measures.

Also, we must bare in mind that it is likely that Delofeu could extend his loan for another year, when he will have already had a head-start on McGeady in terms of both PL football and Everton.

Obviously, the best thing for McGeady right now would be to hit the ground running with Everton immediately. Hopefully that transpires, for the sake of himself and Ireland. We could have McGeady going at full throttle under the tutelage of Martinez (at club) and Martin O'Neill from the beginning of the Euro qualifiers. Otherwise, he could just be languishing in Russia on the bench, patiently awaiting Everton to begin pre-season football.

He's officially signed for Everton, just walked out at Goodison wearing an Everton shirt. Great news.

    4 1/2 year contract until June 2018.
Not a bad deal for McGeady. Not many players get that long.

Honestly, looking at the coverage and a few photos, he could do with losing a few pounds.

He did say he hasn't been in action for a month and is looking to get back to match fitness. There's an interview on EvertonTV.

Yeah... Looked to me to be carrying a bit of tumber also. Thought it was maybe the shirt over the clothes making him look bigger

Well this debate in unlikely to include McGeady now. He could become the first Irish player to play in the Champions League group stage with three different clubs though. I presume he would be the first anyway.

Everton fans, for the most part, don't seem thrilled with the deal. I'm only basing this on their facebook page but he's taken a bit of a battering for his ability, as well as his weight. There were a good few sticking up for him as well saying to give him a chance at least. To be fair, social media is littered with clueless morons and McGeady even divides opinion more than most on foot.ie.

Well said. I think Everton will be a great way of resolving the debate and is a very good move for him and us. He'll only succeed if he's good enough and we'll find out in the next few months.

I think he succeeded at Celtic and Spartak, no solid reasons yet to think why he won't be a success at Everton. Martinez has been observing him for quite some time and that includes his performances for Ireland. His last impression on that front was the sub appearance against Kazakhstan.

Most of the pundits I've heard/read seem to think that he will be a success at Everton and categorize him as a resounding success at Spartak.

However, im eagerly anticipating the opinion of our very own Paul O'racle before I get too excited...

Paul just told me that McGeady will have a bad game at some undetermined point in the future. He said to mark his words.

Or just don't invite him to lodge in your house.
