ATFC as a fellow Athlone fan, why do you feel the need to gloat on here most of the time?

    Genuine question?

Are you a genuine Athlone fan (regular match goer not just this season) or do you just enjoy winding up opposition?

Its brilliant to see attendances rising for our games, but I get the impression that should we go up next season there will be an element of support who will revel in larger amounts of opposition support coming to town for games, this "element" will no doubt have more interest in rising opposition supporters than actually supporting the team.

I'm not insinuating that you are in fact one of the above at all, far from it. But the nature of your posts seem to infer you have the aim of rubbing it in peoples faces rather than showing a bit of modesty or class.

And its definately an attitude i've noticed about some of the younger support, the johnny come lately's if you will.

As i've said before, Athlone has a good football tradition. Older fans have seen it all, european adventures and hidings in the 1st division, so I hope all our fans are not tarred with the one brush.

There are so many who are excited about the opportunity to welcome the likes of Rovers, Sligo, Pats & co to Lissywollen, and to see us operate against that higher level of opposition on a regular basis if we can manage to get over the line this season.

Lets not develop a bad rep for the club with the sniping.

Regardless of what others did, it doesn't excuse building up a shedload of crud to deal with if you stumble. I have to clarify that while I'd like to see the teams I mentioned earlier go up, I'd much rather see 1 division so all clubs could grow. The excuse of "meaningless" matches is just that, an excuse. If Rovers go up to play in Harps in late October with nothing for either side to play for, you'd still get over 1,000 at it.

Our league is good, the energy is there, it's just the next step that'll define it.

So you verbally attack him on a football forum?I actually saw what your talking about on twitter and to be fair there was just as much if not more abuse coming from Athlone fans ganging up on one fella. Not that I want to get involved or care less about these childish twitter spats but would you please keep them off foot.ie.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Been going for 17 years so no im not one of these who come when we are winning. Iv been to every home and away game this season. I wasnt rubbing anything in or having a go. This all started when people claim Athlone are lying about the attendance without any proof.

We have 2-3 buses going I think.

We should have 100 + although some people were saying we could be bringing more as a lot of people are interested.

I seen 1 over excited Athlone fan suggest you'd bring 500 but I'd honestly expect ye to bring way more than 100 for such a game especially if ye are still running free buses to games like earlier in the season. We brought around 150 to the game In Lissywoolen a few weeks ago and this game is far bigger so ye should have at least 200.

We only done the one free bus. But ye 500 is a little optimistic haha. I reckon well have bout 120 singing and prob 200-250 at the game. Although most of them will sit in the stand i would imagine

This is not to follow the route that ATFC has taken with adding in extra people to figures given, but I was told in oriel park recently that depending on the night/game, there are upwards of 150 people not included in our figures. Could be made up from volunteers to officials to non squad players to sponsors to media. All not counted but most take up a seat at some point during the match.

Attendances can only be counted by including those who paid in (hence counted by tickets) and adding in the ST total, therefore the 2,179 given for the match v Roves although being around 150 below, has to be the correct figure.

I would agree with this logic.

Does the club not count the number of complimentary tickets that are given out/used? Anyone entering the ground on a freebie should be identifiable to the club, as they are a guest of the club. If the club has no mechanism to track the numbers of people who are entering the ground (legitimately) without paying, then how can they do any proper forward planning?
People being let in on a nod is so amateurish. The club needs to know the value of the freebies it gives out for proper business planning (even for something as basic as the value of the ticket element in any sponsorship deal).

How will the club cope with possible sell-out games next season in the Europa League?

Sell-out games in the Europa league. Nice thought.

In the event of possible capacity games, a different control process is necessary.

As far as I know, people let in on a complimentary basis have tickets, it just a different ticket to paid customers. These tickets are not included in the disclosed attendance figures.

Thanks and correct, I meant ATFC 1887, just making a point on how our club records attendances and why in certain matches, like last Friday how the attendance figure published (which I agree with) is actually a little lower than those in attendance. Its really not that far off, probably 150 tops.

Rovers had a lower than expected away support, I would thought we could have attracted more, but 2,200 was the paid in figure and thats the figure we had to record. Prob 2,350 there, but that cant be published, and I think thats correct. Whats next, counting those on the bench, Order of Malta ??

Its the just the way it is these days, people have plenty more options on, but if we can get a few more 2k+ crowds, I'd say there will be a decent chance of breaking even for the season, possibly even making a tiny operational profit.

As for Europe, lets get there first, but again the max we could attract as opposed to what everyone would hope for will be different, for eg our first home game in Europe v Grevenmacher in 17 years, in 2010, 3 away goals up, and still we could only attract (albeit with no away fans) 2,500

However the one good thing about this year, is the consistency of the crowds, after the first 12 home games, we are already 7,200 up on the whole of last season.

Big crowd in Tallaght. Around 4,500 maybe more. Pats sold out their section and had a good few scattered around the ground.

I believe the figure was 186 for Harps tonight, or something similar. Will wait on official confirmation, but it was only around 250 maximum. Desperate stuff, but considering our recent run, not surprising. Hopefully at very least double that for Waterford game next week.

EDIT: It was a headcount by reporters at the kick-off that gave 186. Official figure will most likely be around 200.
