I thought so too. Not knocking Shams (seriously, for once in my life), but it seems like a massive step backward considering the football he's played in the last 12 months or so.

I can only conclude that his personal situation requires him to be in Dublin. I'd be the first to admit playing for Rovers is below his level, especially when we're not in Europe. I'll be very sceptical until it's announced.

That might have developed subsequently or in tandem, but he pulled out of the Irish squad first, which I doubt he would do because he was mad at somebody in a different country.
