Craig Forrest, and his brainless sidekick on SNW, accusing Duff of "using his physicality" illegally to get Fulhams opener...Jaysus.

It's a sad state of affairs when neanderthals like Duff have to rely on their immense physicality to dominate their opponents.

Just used his brute force to play a delightful through ball which was central to Fulhams goal. Lovely pass.

He's definitely showing the strength and physicality that made us fall in love with him in the first place.

All good things must come to an end, but it is a shame he is retiring when he is banging in the goals, joint 2nd top scorer (of 7) at the moment.
On the positive side we are not exactly short of wingers, so perhaps best he bows out at the top.

We're short of wingers who can retain possession for longer than 1/4th of a millisecond however, desperately short. Or indeed just players in general.

However I see him as more replaceable than Richard Dunne for example, we have for example, McGeady, McClean, Hunt, Andy Reid, Hoolahan, Doyle and no doubt a few other who can play on the wings/midfield. I'd really struggle to find 6 replacements for Dunne. There may be a hole to fill but it's not a very deep one.
Anyhow we will see soon enough how much we will miss him.

I'm unsure given Dunnes recent form, the drop to JOS + St Ledger with Kelly right back isn't titanic. Also consider the type of midfield we play and defences shouldn't be badly exposed. It's still a loss without Dunne but I don't think it'd be as bad as people expect.
For me I see our biggest problem in the team as the retention of possession, not holding possession puts our defence under more pressure, gives us less attacking opportunities and just tires out everyone. Duff was the best player by a mile at relieving pressure, winning set pieces and launching attacking platforms, to lose him is worsening what was already our biggest flaw.

Duff's goal against Manchester United yesterday:

Good presence and movement from Duff to leave Ashley Young in his wake. Was well-worked.

Fulham try that move quite often, actually, always with Duff. I think he's scored 2 or 3 times from it.

Cant imagine Duffer getting into management, coaching or tv/journalistic work. When he retires, I suspect that it is the last most of us will see of him in the public. Knowing Duffer, he'll probably head off for a nice long sleep.

The interview is available here in part 3 of the 30th August show. Duffer's interview starts about 27 minutes in.

Very revealing interview - typical Duffer stuff. He says he definitely wants to play League of Ireland.

He also says he had made up his mind to retire before the European Championships. Trap tried over a couple of weeks to persuade him to stay and he nearly changed his mind but ultimately, he listened to his gut.

I think we could make room for him on the left.

Interesting he says that he decided to retire before the Euros and that Trap was very convincing in trying to get him to change his mind that it had him wavering on the decision. Once again our media don't have a notion and blame their ignorance on Trap, gutter journalists from the likes of the Herald were churning out reports of his commitment literally 10 hours before his retirement and naturally have the nerve now to claim Trap is poor at communication.

It's pretty clear that even the IT made up stuff around Duff to indicate he was not retiring.
It's also clear that most of the other journalists make up stuff to show Trap up as a doddery old fool, lost in a fantasy world of his own making,
which people swallow hl&s as a truth, because the team & Trap's tactics/loyalty hit a brick wall at the Euros.
