Ah yes, stream, that's what it's called.

Eh eh eh... I know this one. I think the punchline is something like "the winning is not important".

Well lads let's get the match reports in! According to UEFA site, Clifford or Duffy didn't come on, disappointing. Great start to the qualifying campaign though

So if winning is not important, as Don says, does that mean tonight's game was a waste of time?

Only official report I can find so far:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/sports/soc...303344850.html

Would be nice to hear from a few of the apparent 2,800 at the game though

". . . . the embryonic Group 7." Remarkable turn of phrase. Never heard that one before not sure if it's appropriate in a match report

I was going to make a comment about that myself; appropriate or not at least it's something different

Even though it belongs to the 365 media group (owned by BskyB) I think Sportinglife is a fantastic sports website.
It balances itself perfectly somewhere between the sometimes boring BBC sports webpage and the trying-too-hard-to-be-cool/sarcastic sites like football365.
I remember in the late 90's - early 0's when I lived in England there was a cheap program on channel 4 on Friday nights (just before dial-a-date) reviewing new websites and they recommended Sportinglife one time.
Ever since I have been a daily visitor; highly reccommended.

    1 Turkey Turkey 1 3
2 Republic of Ireland Republic of Ireland 1 3
    3 Italy Italy 0 0
    4 Hungary Hungary 1 0
    5 Liechtenstein Liechtenstein 1 0

the group table, what struck me is is how tough it looks, there seems to be only one crap team whereas other groups have 5 crap
    teams.

Anyway it seems Hungry would have came from pot 4 and Ireland pot 3, Turkey Pot 2 and Italy pot 1.
So 2-1 is a fair but not a great result?

This apparent 2800 was a correct figure as there was no seats left - new stand holds 1900 and old stand holds 900 - a great occasion - keeper was poor , back four played well but got caught square a few times , brady superb and mccarthy neat but not spectacular - barton and towell showed some lovely touches . The one touch play between white , murphy and the linking midfield players was great to watch . First goal brady cut in and rifled it home from about 18 yards.
We stopped playing for the rest of the half and hungary got a deserved equaliser when our back 4 were caught square.
2nd half was very even until a brilliant set piece returned the ball to brady who put a pinpoint cross onto rhys murphys head 4 yards from goal.
Red card was very harsh as it was only a trip but we were very comfortable for the last 15 minutes. Good but not great atmosphere but pitch was magnificent . Credit due to sligo rovers and all concerned.

Only negative was that there was only one ticket booth and a 50 metre queue beforehand meant that a lot of people missed kick off. I am told that ticket sales were the responsibility of the fai but hope that they will return for the next 2 home games.

The Irish team started well and deserved the opener when Robbie Brady cut in from the right on 15 mins and hit a stinging shot with his left foot low off the wet surface past the Hungarian keeper from the edge of the box. They look winded and took a long time to recover after the Hungarians equalled on 38mins. It was even for the first half of the second half the Hungarians conceding a Murphy goal from close range on 69 mins. We should have had more goals in the last 5 minutes when at least three good chances in front of goals went abegging.
Overall an impressive performance played with a good attitude from their players. Also great to see these games moved around the country I really enjoyed it.
Mcloughlin ok not a lot to do gave us a few nervous moments with balls played back to him. Both full backs done well Connolly looked tired. Caravan and kiernan done what they had to do. Towell looked very good at times but drifted out of the game. We seen the best of McCarthy towards the end of the game perhaps his stamina told. Quiet before that. Aidan White was very impressive, great feet and feel for the ball. Can get past players. Collins had a good gameas well. Murphy looks an asset. Links up well and and aware. Barton was outstanding both in the air and on the ground. Used the ball well and for a tall player is good on the ground. I'll be keeping an eye on him. When Brady got on the ball he was dangerous really looks strong and decisive. It a pity he was nt more involved.
They look like a good unit hopefully it works out for them.

White and Brady look the best players. Brady should be in 1st team squad.

    McCarthy didn't do a lot.

Agreed Brady looked the part - Barton and Murphy played well too. McCarthy was very comfortable on the ball without ever really imposing himself on the game. Hungarians were poor enough

It must be painful to watch these young Irish lads still doing it the primitive way with the occasion bright spark like Brady.
Must keep an eye out for the Icelandic teams in the UEFA Cup groups.

    Oh wait...

Good win for us - Hungary are the higher seed. Difficult away trip to Turkey next Tuesday to be followed by a double header against Liechtenstein. All going well we have a good opportunity to top the group going into the new year.

Toss up beween Adam Barton and Robbie Brady for man of the match. Both were on top form. Thought McCarthy worked hard, but he was quite poor on the ball at times - he should have had a goal but took too many touches. The defence has 4 centre halves in it and they look quite slow when I think on it. Kiernan and Canavan played deep at times, presumably because of the lack of pace between them. Gunning was solid.
End Apartheid Now! One Team in Ireland!
