Would you not say Dan Murray, Danny Murphy, Ronan Finn, Chris Turner, Ken Oman, Richard Brush, Gary McCabe, Pat Sullivan, Dessie Baker, Pat Flynn, Thomas Stewart etc. were all established LOI players when MO'N signed them? (Not sure if he actually did sign last three though)

    Just askin' like.

Murray I'd give you, he was 27 when he signed. Murphy I forgot about, and again was hardly a success.

MON's stated every pre-season that the type of player he's looking for are young, hungry players (and when you look at how the older ones he's signed have done you'd have to agree). He didn't sign Baker or Flynn, both were already here. Finn, Turner, Stewart were all young (though Stewart was a panic buy when Twigg & Baker both got injured at the start of the year) and are much closer to the type of player MON's targeted more often. I'd take all five of our central midfielders over Dempsey to be honest, its our strongest position in terms of numbers (and probably quality too), unless one of them leaves in the window which case Dempsey would be a good pick-up. Haven't heard any murmurs about anyone leaving though.

But even at a young age, the players I've mentioned were still all established as good Premier Division LOI players.

Yeah maybe established wasn't the right word, but the strategy seems to have been players like Sheppard, McCabe, Kilduff, Chambers, McCormack who seem to be on the up as opposed to veterans like Dempsey which we've signed comparatively few of since MON came in.

And tonight we announced the signing of Karl Moore. Haven't been too impressed with him any time I've seen him, but as I mentioned before, he fits the profile of players MON looks to bring to the club.

Moore started really well for us, and was our best player in the first 3 or four weeks of the seaso. But then whether it as a lack of confidence or a realisaiton of the sh!te around him, he wwnt to absolute pot, and only came close to reaching his early season form in the last few games for us before he left. Can't see him getting a start, but should provide decent back-up is MO'N can restore his confidence

Well deserved, very good young player. I hope Derry get paid for both contracts, erm....seriously, shows that there is a good stream of quality coming through!

Obviously Derry held out for the highest bid, local fans must know what the fee was, what was it last turned down for, 250k? Good bit of work.

Yeah I believe a 250,000 offer from Peterbrough was rejected. Apparently, Sunderlands offer was 350,000 quid - plus add ons.

    sterling.

quoted in IT as 400K euro.

edit: I think the £250k from peterborough was accepted, but barry fry or whoever is quoted somewhere as blaming the agent for it breaking down.

Why on earth would a club using stg offer euro to the selling club when they also use stg?

Sounds like a very good deal for Derry, nice one and good to see clubs getting a fair price.

Not a bad bit of business. Well done Derry for holding out. Hope McLean cracks it over in Blighty.

it would be a pity if mcclean goes just before he wins his first senior cap for the north..He would have being the first Derry city player since Liam Coyle to win a cap but alas not to be.. Hes a serious prospect and will do well over there.
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

Niall McGinn was the last player to play for NI whilst at Derry. That was in November of 2008. It was 19 years before that that Liam Coyle came on as a late sub for them against Chile in 1989.

How likely is McClean to feature on Wednesday anyway? Maybe it would be surprising if Worthington didn't tie him down by throwing him on for the last few minutes if NI are comfortably ahead given he's made clear he's still open to the prospect of playing for Ireland, but I don't see him starting or being brought on if NI aren't already home and dry.

Needs to be a competitive match before being tied

    It's a Euro 2012 qualifier.
