Nice one. Hopefully their defence stays as tight as it was in qualifying for the remaining 35mins.

With 3 players in the book now for Ireland (Doherty, Carruthers, Hendrick), what are the rules for this tournament? Two yellows in the group stages and you miss the next game?

Carbon copy of the first, I believe. Corner onto O'Connor's head and into the net.

The Greeks appear to be set out ultra defensive - from that shot it looks like they've parked the bus.

It was strange that The Indo felt that Trap, being another foreigner wheeled in to tell us what to do, might be a factor. I didn't hear many complain about Joe Schmidt!

Irish Times today reports that only about 1,000 Irish will travel to NZ for the rugby, but will be joined by the ex-pat / backpacking entourage. That's pretty disappointing I reckon.

Anyway, I'm just back from a few days with my family in Rathfarnham. The Stuttgart Rathfarnham Castle Playground survey repeated its April result: Of the kids wearing branded sports gear there was one one Dublin GAA, one Leinster rugby shirt, one Leinster pair of tracky bottoms, 2 Arsenal shirts (brothers I think - dad must be a fan!), 2 Man U, 2 Liverpool, one Argentina football, one Italy football. Only one Ireland football shirt and it was one of those unofficial Dunnes Stores jobbies. One grown up was wearing an Irish rugby shirt.

Of those playing games on the grass, there was one group of hurlers, one group playing football and two lads with a rugby ball. I think there were all part of the same larger group - which confirms my view that kids now play everything, which is good.
you've got to be careful hanging around all these playgrounds Stutts.as they say in gladstone park 'no adults unaccompanied by kids'

rathfarnham is far from a GAA stronghold.more so soccer way more so rugby so that has to be a good thing.

Connor Smith and Joseph Shaughnessy on for Conor Murphy and Derrick Williams now. Just over five minutes to go.

3-1 to the Czechs in the other game. Goal from Vojtěch Hadaščok. Romania haven't been great at the back.

    According to the official regulations:

    Yellow and red cards

20.03 A player who is sent off the field of play is suspended for the next match in the same category of competition, unless there is evidence of an obvious mistake by the referee. The Control and Disciplinary Body is entitled to augment this punishment.

20.04 In the case of repeated cautions in different matches, the offending player is suspended for one match in the same competition after the second and fourth caution, as well as after any subsequent cautions.

20.05 Single yellow cards that have not resulted in a suspension expire on completion of the elite round and are not carried forward to the final round.

20.06 In the final round, single yellow cards that have not resulted in a suspension expire on completion of the group phase and are not carried forward to the semi-finals.

20.07 Cautions and pending yellow-card suspensions expire on completion of the competition.

Looks like single cards won't be carried over although a suspension will if, say, a player was to receive a second card in the final group game.

    UEFA updates...

Kane Ferdinand on now, although I see he's become simply Kane McGovern on the UEFA site now.

That 3rd Czech goal was desperate. How could they not see the last striker. Brutal.
Upstairs sorting out new music, will ye give me a heads up if our game has highlights on Eurosport.

Someone said there are to be highlights after the Romania-Czech game, although I dunno if they'll be on Eurosport 1 or 2. That game was on 2 and just finished 3-1.

Our game has finally finished 2-1 after five minutes of stoppage time. Great start to the tournament.

Romania were very poor at the back against the Czechs. Would be hopeful of something against them and you'd have to be confident of getting out of the group after a victorious start.

So where does Anthony O'Connor play position wise? He's a defender at Blackburn right? Was he playing in defense tonight?

Plays at centre-back. Was playing there this evening. Just up for the corners.

Edit: Interestingly, he mightn't have been playing had Shane Duffy or Sean McGinty been in the squad.
