On overall play we deserved to win 5-0.
    Okay Brian.

I disagree, Duff didn't go and play as an out and out forward, he moved in from the left and played in behind Morrison (and wasn't that effective bar one good effort). My point about the 3 positional changes stands and imo it was those changes that caused the tempo to drop. Fair enough it was a mistake from Given compounded by O'Shea for the penalty but had we maintained our tempo we it wouldn't have been an issue. 5-0?? Come on!

And both goals came after Keane was taken off, I'd call them their 2 best attacks.....

I don't know I can't remember anymore so I'm just going off my thoughts at the time. I watched the match afterwards and the first half an hour about 5 times since. The tempo dropped before Keane went off. Israel were well in the game before he was taken off. We still played very, very well over the 90 minutes and created tons of chances.

Sorry then, not 5-0. I'll give them the peno. 5-1 could easily have been the scoreline with a bit more fortune.

Okay, tempo started to drop before just before Keane went off as he had picked up his knock and was a passenger. That could have been sorted by putting Elliot on for a straight swap in my view but was instead compounded by having 3 players move into new positions.

I thought we huffed and puffed second half and dunno how you could reckon we deserved 3 goals from those 45 minutes, their keeper made a few decent saves but was hardly world class even discounting his antics.

As I said, I can't remember now but those were my thoughts at the time. We destroyed them. Anyway, it's over now.

Eirebhoy, can you post the Ireland-Israel footage online somewhere please? Masochistic and all as it sounds, I'd be really keen to take a look at it again if at all possible.

    Muchos gracias!

    nice article

    and suggestion

He also, it seems, could do with replacing Liam Brady. A younger, former Ireland player might help to provide a bridge between the rest of the management team and the players... somebody who has earned their stripes, knows the current crop and his way around the Premier League would be pretty good. If Kevin Kilbane was hanging up his boots over the summer then he would fit the bill rather nicely.

Malone seems to be advocating a hardline while not overtly criticising the players, which is a little weird. I like his idea of replacing Liam Brady though, or having a young coach as a direct line to the players - couldn't Alan Kelly fill that role?

I think this is a good suggestion and Kilbane would appear to fit the bill. Although I side with Trap on the recent troubles with the younger lads, I think it would be no harm to have a recent ex player in the camp who the younger players could relate to. And also an ex player with a greater understanding of the British/Irish culture.

If only it was true, at least his tiredness would be justified.

No point IMO, hopefully Trap only has 5 games at most left, then we can get an actual manager in rather than a massively expensive figurehead who relies on DVDs to gauge a players talent.

Tardelli seems to be facing the media a lot more lately. I suppose there could be a couple of reasons for that.

wilson, andy reid, stokes and mccarthy arent considered for the remainder of traps reign

he is succeded by tardelli who declares that its a fresh start for everyone and all elegible players are welcome

what do people think of this scenario, likely? unlikely? correct? incorrect?

I think doors still open for McCarthy and Wilson under Trap, but it'd likely depend on them keeping their nose clean. Tardelli would probably be a fresh start for all though Andy Reid would need more than a clean slate to resurrect his international career.

When Trap says "never say never" in relation to a player's future, you do begin to worry.

Nevertheless, Keith Tracey managed to get back on his good books.
