I have reason to believe that Kieran Mulchrone is the new Westport United manager. I was listening to it on the radio this evening.
The juniors in their opening two games of the league have come away with two draws but they were really unlucky in Belmullet on Saturday evening. Played some lovely intricate football and were denied by a sucker punch goal at the end. The positives from the opening two games were game time opportunities to Liam Staunton, Darren Browne and Johnny Smith. Liam got his first senior goal for the club on Saturday evening in Belmullet, Darren was unlucky with a header against Ballina Town while Johnny Smith had a very good game on Saturday evening. Looking to the future we are going to see a lot of the better underage footballers being graduated up onto the first team, so the next couple of seasons will be pretty transitional. We may not win trophies for a couple of years but we look at rebuilding the first team and hopefully the new boys in time will deliver success, so I think that every Westport United supporter needs to be patient over the next couple of years and I think we will reap the rewards for our investment into our schoolboys and youths.

only heard it on the radio - i taught a die hard like you would maybe even be consulted on the appointment before it was annouched over the airwaves. however, who is this kieran mulchrone
Kieran Mulchrone served as an assistant to Barry Kilgannon. Before that, he managed the B team and was assistant manager to John Moran of the B team.

The U.16s are in the Connacht Cup final after beating Knocknacarra 3-1. They will be taking on Corofin in Willow Park FC's ground in Athlone next Saturday at 1:00. Tremendous crowd at the game today as the team did enough to secure a place in the final. The second half was one full of free kicks, yellow cards and a red. If the boys win next Saturday, they will only be the second underage side in the club to win the Mayo Double and Connacht Cup; the last Westport United side to achieve that feat was the U.15s in the 1988-89 season. The team only lost two games out of 23 in the whole season and this particular group of footballers only lost once at home since November 2007.

I think Westport needed a draw that night to win the league at the time and it looked like they were going to get it until Celtic took the lead.

Yeah you're spot on Thunder, 1-0 at half time and we came back in the second half. Terrific derby!
Good luck to the under 16 side next Sat from all at Swinford FC
There will be a supporters bus to the game on Saturday. Thanks for the outside support.

Hopefully we see a Mayo Double this weekend with Celtic (under 14) and Westport (under 16) in their respective Connacht finals!
Off course Manulla are also in the final of the under 14, but I'm hoping for the first double![]()
Best of Luck to Westport United u16s in their Connacht Cup Final tomorrow.
Nope did not realise Swinford were in the plate final. Best of luck to them.
Many congrats to your lads today. Westport won on pens to complete a terrific treble.
Great win for the U.16s. Held out brilliantly with ten men and the keeper saved two penos. Great treble for the side. It was the icing on the cake for them. The future is certainly in safe hands.

Congrats to the under 16s winning the connacht cup at the weekend. Didn't make it to Athlone but heard they put in a brilliant perfomance. Well done to all involved
They did very well and the whole town is very proud of the boys. The goalkeeper was named as joint footballer of the week on the Connaught Telegraph, while the management team got managers of the week. Westport defended brilliantly after going down to 10 men and at the same time could easily have been 3-1 up at half time. Some super penalties were taken too.

Thunder will Westport be entering an Under 17 FAI Cup team?
