Foot.ie! Top of the table clash

The focus returns to the premier league this weekend with the top two coming face to face in Tramore.
With Carrick Utd having been involved in cup action since January the home side have had a chance to steal a march on them. The seasiders are now three points clear but the champions have two games in hand.
It should be an interesting encounter.

Has the prospects of being a really good game of game. Graun Park has the best surface in waterford and this clash always throws up a fiesty encounter

Talk of Waterford wanting to change time now because it clashes with game at RSC but Junior League not in favour.
Shades of last season when they changed the date of the Ardagh Cup final to suit game at RSC despite having it fixed for the Friday night originally.

Outcome to this will be interesting, to say the least!!

How many Carrick and Tramore follower's would actually go to the RSC?? I suspect 10 maybe at most if they are cribbing over 100 euro you no senior football is in trouble!

I suppose the Junior League has finish it main competition on time and with Sunday's games cancelled for the Johnny Giles Walk it had get the game played.

I heard recently that the Waterford Schoolboy league have blocked an application by Waterford United to enter schollboy teams from next season, they wanted to protect the schoolboy teams from losing their best players to Waterford United but doesn't this already happen with Villa and Bohs???

Yes, its very hard for schoolboys to resist the advances from the big schoolboy clubs.
But I suppose it is also the same all over the country.

That doesn't make it right we have seen it from our club over the years there has being plenty of players who went to the city, with very little benefits. The schoolboy commitee in Carrick have to take alot of plaudits for the effort they are putting in and hopefully we will start taking "A" League off Villa etc soon and also see more young fella's come through to play in the junior teams

Yes , Carrick are doing all the right things as regards schoolboys as can be seen from their progress in the A leagues. If players leave they soon realise the grass is'nt always greener on the other side, pardon the pun.

    Tramore 2 - 0 Carrick

Tramore thourghly desvered their victory on the night, they play a great brand of football, based on ex waterford united's Paul McCarthy and Stephen Grant in midfield, they pass the ball at pace and Grant makes superb runs beyound the centre forward which Carrick had no answer for, both goals were taken extremly well. Massive crowd turned out for this top of the table clash which left carrick licking their wounds they will have to regroup quickly with Ferrybank away next saturday and the following sunday Wembley in Ozier in MJC semi.

there seems to be a lot of negitive talk in regard to Carrick Utd. (ie too old , gone past it etc Probably not as good as previous years but still well there in Prem league , in semi,s in both Mun. senior and junior cups. Most clubs would love to have a season like it. losing players like Sconnie Walsh , Dyl Kavinagh, Mikey Coady ,Ian Cleary and Brian Barry would certainly have consequenses for any club . I think they have done exceptionally well
considering . Tramore played very well on Friday but they had to keep season alive and they are possibly on the brink of being a top club . But there is great spirit in Carrick and they will not give up crown too easy

It was Carrick's first league defeat in two years I think. They have also had to deal with changes in the squad this season .
But a team with their fantastic success record over the past ten years will always be judged on high standards. As Carrick Utd always base their squad on local players they like to promote from within and will not pack the team just for the sake of it.
Given the club philiosophy and as already stated any junior squad would find it hard to absorb the loss of the quality of the above mentioned players.

Lads its called jealousy- its always the same knock the best teams !! Carrick still will win league I reckon and have been best team in munster not just Waterford consistently for the past ten yrs.To lose the above named players and other key players through injuries wud decimate most teams. As a member of another Waterford club I admire Carrick as a club for what they have won- they have put Waterford Junior league soccer on the map.
