Manager: Fergal, have you your boots with ya?
Fergal: Ya, I have them here.
Manager: Ah good stuff, well give them to this man so, he forgot his!
Is everybody lashing into the Christmas spirits? SkStu, stop slagging me! Oriel, you're a true bearer of one of the greatest kingdoms of old Ireland - the kingmaker kingdom. I reckon the next step is to fully resurrect Oriel - Oriel Sports Club, Mon's can be Farney Athletic, etc etc. It worked for rugby, it can work for football too. Maybe it's the christmas spirits coursing through my blood right now :-)
redobit, you'll find that behind every club is a person(s) who are in it for less than the public good. If you doubt that then why do sponsors sponsor? a) tax write off, b) getting punters in the doors, c) ego. It's business to them all, but at least his money went legally through contracts and papers, not sliding a few quid under the table to keep players onside.

If someone could answer some questions on this, because I'm totally oblivious to the whole thing.
Gannon put in 750k in 2009. Fingal made a loss of 75k the same year as far as I know.
1. Did he put it in through his company, or through himself?
2. Where did that money go?
3. The Lep mentioned earlier, before his departure, that there was something about re-zoning of land to suit Gannon. Was it that he made a "donation" to Fingal to sweeten the CoCo or what?
4. 750k removed from a LOI team budget is worrying. Do they seriously think they'll be challenging for anything next season with a revelation such as this?
Thanks to anyone that takes the time!
Sporting F*ck All!
Not wanting to nitpick but most of the kingdom of oriel was in Monaghan and farney is only a small part of carrickmacross who don't care bout the mons so not a good idea.
Also as a club that is owned by the community, with no money man, with our funding coming largely through fundraising and the utilisation of our assets, being run voluntarily, we are proof that not all clubs are as you described to redobit.
Just needed to point that out and sorry for my dickishness.
But that's just the point - there would be no FANS without Gannon's money.
There was no club started in the local FINGAL pub, playing in the Sunday leagues, who gradually attracted a 'CROWD' of 30 or 40 people, which gradually (over 30 years) rose through the leagues until they finally made it to ....................................... - well you know what I'm getting at!!!!
While there was always a part of the country names Fingal, it was never called that until a relatively short time ago. You would find it hard to find 'Citizens of Fingal' who, to this day, would call it by that name.
In short - NO GANNON (or someone like him) - NO Sporting Fingal.

And no coin flipping to decide the clubs' name.
DID YOU NOTICE A SIGN OUTSIDE MY HOUSE...?
1 Not certain but seems to be a personal deal (I understand he is in NAMA personally as well as corperately so may make no difference.
2. Cost of running club (primarily wages - full time contracts not cheap (especially with such meagre crowds)
3. Recall there was somerthing around rezoning in connection with the prosed site for the ground they were hoping to build
4. yep. 750 K will leave a big hole in next seasons budget
Not (obviously) involved in Fingal so if anyone knows better feel free to correct me

In the Indo today (via the Shels forum) that Mrs Gannon may be going into NAMA as well. So that would in theory put an end to any possibility of Gerry Gannon continuing his donations through her.
Is your understanding from the link posted a couple of pages ago?

Can we say for sure this confirms Premier Division football for Dayler next season?
Cool, I wasn't sure Sp. Fingal are in a good position and ok for a Premier Division licence.
