bThere are several reasons:
1) Tallaght Stadium is already declared as the venue to UEFA
2) Shamrock Rovers fans are the first prioirity and most would feel passionate about having it in Tallaght
3) The big money is in the TV rights, and the TV will pay the same money irrespective of venue
4) There is only one week to promote the game - Aviva would not automatically be a big deal financially given the probable high costs involved.
5) Shamrock Rovers can create an enormous demand relative to supply and therefore create a big "desirability factor" from within the communities they wish to target as long term supporters

Why would they have it in the aviva??
yes there is money but
1: rovers will not be at all used to the pitch and teh huge crowd
2: bigger teams will be more used to big hostile crowds and going to a samller grownd will have a cycological advantage.
i am a bray fan and would love to wish rovers the best of look in the next round .

srfc twitter page already suggests we'll be playing in tallaght with additional stands.

Our seats were bolted into the concrete in the shed, Town end terrace and carrick road terrace which have steps/levels. How can Rovers do this without a supporting infrastructure on either end of the Tallaght Stadium?

Are you sure you're not confusing regulations for international games with European competition games?

Don't think so @Reillinho: For the @ShamrockRovers v Juve game next week, will UEFA allow Rovers to have the temp seats behind the goals!
This is from the UEFA Stadium Infrastructure Regulations 2010 (if you search on this forum you will find a link previously posted to uefa.com). The extract here relates to all stadium categories:
Section 2: Spectator-related areas
Article 15 - Stands and spectator facilities
1) Seats for spectators must be individual, fixed (e.g. to the floor), separated fromone another, shaped, numbered, made of an unbreakable and non-flammable
material, and have a backrest of a minimum height of 30cm when measured from the seat.
2) The use of temporary stands is prohibited.
3) The stadium must be equipped with refreshment and catering facilities for allspectators in every sector of the stadium.
Fair enough, but whats the difference between temporary and removable? I guess we'll be going with 6,500 so, which is a pity but at least looks after all our own fans.
BTW, this is a fantastic conversation to be having a couple of years after going to Cobh, Athlone and Ballyboffey.
Just shows that comments from the likes of Fenlon (and others) about Irish teams not being able to compete anymore is way off. Fingal put it up to a Portuguese team, Rovers fully deserved to beat an Israeli team over two legs, the better team in each game. With all due respect to Dundalk and Bohs, both Fingal and Rovers went in to those games in good health, on and off the pitch, gave everything they had over 180 minutes and didn't need excuses made afterwards. We're not as bad a league as we might think.
The only downside of all this is that the Rovers-Bohs game in Tallaght at the start of August will now have to be postponed, a pity considering how well we're doing and how all over the place Bohs seem. Not the worst problem to have going to bed tonight though of course.

Here on a technicality.
It can't be at Lansdowne, as it erm, isn't open yet. Regardless if it was, our stadium is built for these games, and was created with it in mind. We went through a lot to play in our stadium, and we're not going to surrender home advantage for Italians.
Stands = check.
Floodlights = check.
Press area = check.
Catering facilities = check
Tallaght is not Tolka Park, and we're not Shelbourne. Nevertheless, the Barcodes will play in a tinpot stadium in the tie. It's known as Modena in 2 weeks time.

Well done to Rovers. Fantastic win. Thought some might like the quote from a Bnei fan I found on the internet to swop a programme from Tallaght for one from last night.
He sent me an email after the game
"Congratulations! Shamrock Rovers have excellent team, great fans and fairly clear victory."
I was at Fingal last night and they did well but were beaten by a better side. Great roar when they announced the result from Tel Aviv. Thankfully Rovers went through. It would have been a horrible day/weekend in th epress with all 4 teams out and the usual suspects having a go. Now it is all about Juventus. I just hope I can get a ticket for next Thursday.

Hard luck to Sporting Fingal last night. Little bit of a pity they could not get through - had a very winnable tie against Bangor City of Wales in the next round.

Well Rovers will just have to wait until May to play a Europa League game in the Aviva. They're dead right to keep it in Tallaght and look after their own fans. Day trippers going to the Aviva prob wouldn't even be able to find Tallaght stadium after.
It reminds me of the time that City were playing Red Star Belgrade. If they had won that game then AC Milan were in the next round. I remember a guy I know, big into football, goes to all Ireland games, but never darkened the door of Turners Cross, and he asked me could I get him a ticket should they progress. Sickening to think that there is people like that who take tickets of the real fans.

Seriously thought, well done and hopefully Rovers can do something in Tallaght to make Juve jittery at home, maybe get their supporters on their backs in the second leg. The ball is round and all that...
I just suggested the Aviva as an aption.
When we were drawn to play PSG a few years ago most wanted the game played elsewhere and our club decided to to everythinng to keep it at the Brandywell.
Great memories from both the home and away games for all that made it and the scramble for tickets is still talked about on our forum.
Hopefully Rvrs can get round the red tape and have the extra stands put in for this game.
Brilliant result Rovers and enjoy both games.
