Rovers started with a lad from dundalk in goal, called Murphy. Back four was Stevens, Price, Sives, Sullivan. Midfield Walsh, Rice, Bradley, Dennehy, Twigg and a fella called Edwards up front.
Second half a canadian keeper, didnt catch his name, Flynn, Cahill, Chambers, O Connor, Kavanagh, Cowan and Barrett all came on. Walsh came back on near the end when Price took a knock. Very easy win, Longford were poor to say the least, their keeper pulled off a couple of decent saves. 6 or 7 nil wouldn't have flattered Rovers.

Paul Murphy isnt the best of keepers, Longford's keeper was probably Aaron Shanahan was with us on two separate occasions..very good goalie.

Yeah we looked like a team that had only been together a week and a half. Rovers were much too strong and fast for us. Shanahan played the second half and did very well, he'll be first choice this season without doubt. Our first half keeper was Stephen Conlon who actually came from Rovers. Didn't cover himself in glory but he's a young lad and should improve. I would hope we'll be in better shape for our next friendlies, next up is supposed to be Cork on the 13th.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

I was at the game. Dreadful crowd. They'd be lucky to break-even.

    MONS GAME V DROGHEDA OFF

Monaghan United FC's planned friendly against Droghed United FC for tomorrow night at United Park has been called off due to an unplayable pitch. This was to be Mick Cooke's first pre-season friendly and a chance for fans to see the 2010 squad in action.

The pre-season friendly against UCD has also had a date change. It will now take place on Sunday the 14th February at 2pm instead of the planned Saturday game.

Well we are very sad to see him go. He was always one of the most reliable players on the pitch who always gave it everything. Yeah would certainly be up there as a legend, another local lad who played all his football here but wants to branch out and try life at another club and get some premier football (like Paul Sheils). We wish him all the best and hope he does sign for you or someone else although we will miss him.

No born and bred in Monaghan. Grew up on the Clones Road (road that Monaghan United's ground is just off). Has been living in Dublin for College for past 4 years though! He is good mates with Darren Meenan too so will settle in quickly am sure.
