A reporter from Ipswich was interviewed on Off The Ball on tuesday night, he mentioned Rhodes as one of the reasons why the fans have not taken Keane to heart yet
Looks like Roy's radar for selecting new players that he can use, is very limited.
It's okay in a firefight emergency to drag in a few knowns but at this stage of his time at Ipswich it looks to be managerial ineptness.
He tried the other option with Sunderland last season and look what happened. Cisse, Diouf, Tainio and Malbranque (good player to be fair) etc......I can see why he is resorting to bringing in players he can trust after such a poor start. Until he sets up a proper scouting network he will be relying on those players who have previously played for him.
According to this
http://www.burnley.vitalfootball.co....e.asp?a=167968
Burnley have had a £1 million bid accepted for Ipswich Town 21 year old midfielder Owen Garvan according to national and local Suffolk media sources today.
That would be class.
Owen must be a real talent spotter.....
....Would love to go out on the town with him some night
Seriouslly though he must be. There is obviouslly something he sees in him(the few times he has seen him?!), I wonder though where would he play him and would he be a bit part player? Does 1mil not seem like a lot of money for someone who has come through the academy and has never aroused interest from other PL clubs?!
I'm a bloke,I'm an ocker
And I really love your knockers,I'm a labourer by day,
I **** up all me pay,Watching footy on TV,
Just feed me more VB,Just pour my beer,And get my smokes, And go away
This would be a great move. Garvan played all his schoolboy football with Chris McCann. Interestingly Coyle also tried to sign another ex Home Farm teammate Darren O'Dea last season.
Always look on the bright side of life
Garvan & McCann together would be interesting all right, and under a really impressive manager. I think both are left-footed though so one or the other may have to take a less-favoured position.
That could be a very clever move by Coyle.
For if Garvan makes the grade in the EPL and helps Burnley stay up, then he'll have been a "steal".
However, if he isn't up to EPL standard, but Burnley do stay up, then next season's TV money etc will make the cost of the gamble on Garvan easily bearable for them.
And even if Burnley should get relegated, then Coyle will still have a player on (presumably) reasonable wages who didn't cost a huge amount, but whom he knows should do a good job in trying to get them back up out of the Championship again.
Kinda similar to some of the signings being made by Mick McCarthy at Wolves, I'd say?
Why should predominantly left-sided midfielders have to move from their preferred position in Centre-Midfield, when we don't ask predominantly right-footed midfielders to do so?
No-one ever told Bryan Robson he should play out on the left, for instance, yet afaik he is left-footed.
If both McCann and Garvan are good enough to play in Centre Midfield, then both should do so, irrespective of whether they are right or left footed - esp in the 4-5-1 formation often deployed by Coyle.
I asked my self the same thing when I was writing it. I suppose it's just because very often left-footed players are played on the left in the absence of a genuine wide player. I think McCann is currently played on the left - if newspaper lineups are anything to go by.
But you're right, 2 left footers should be treated same as 2 right footers.
Just browsing some messageboards. It looks like this rumour has some legs in it. Would be a great move. Three young Irish central midfielders playing in the Premiership - McCarthy, McCann and Garvan. Who said we had a problem in that position? Keane will destroy his career if he stays at Ipswich. Hopefully he proves good enough for the Premiership McCarthy seems some way off from that level thus far but at only 18 he has plenty of time so I won't be too harsh on him yet.

Surely if 1 million was offered it should be enough for Keane for a player he's not even going to have in his first team this year? Doncaster are also looking at Jon Stead so the bid could have been for him. We'll wait and see anyway hopefully Garvan gets out of Ipswich in the next few days. Anywhere in the Championship would be a good move for him at this moment in time.

If this speculation actually relates to Garvan and is true - McCan could have Coyle's ear on this, so to speak.
Within McCan vouching for his old Home Farm team-mate - Burnley could be back with another bid.
Quoting years at random since 1975
True, even despite the fact that the "correct" solution should be to go out and recruit a genuinely left wide player instead.
Of course, there are few left footers around than right footers, but it never ceases to amaze me how coaches of youngsters fail to require players to become two-footed.
The second-best* "two-footed" player I've ever seen was David Ginola. He tended to be played on the left, but was equally at home on the right. Apparently he was very right-footed as a kid, but when he joined his first senior club, they had a right winger who was firmly established in that position, so Ginola was advised to practise his left.
I've no idea how much work he had to put in, but he was as good down the left as any other winger I've ever seen, so it can be done.
* - The best "two-footed" player I've ever seen was Glenn Hoddle. I'm not sure if even he knows whether he's right or left-footed, since he's kicked with both as far back as he can remember. Afaik, he writes with his left hand, but that does NOT mean he must automatically be left-footed, as I know from personal experience!
Late Edit: Thinking about it, George Best might actually have been the best (sorry) two-footed player I've ever seen. I remember once reading that to amuse himself, he once set out playing a game determined only to touch the ball with his left foot. According to the story, he actually got through the entire first half, before forgetting himself when someone passed him the ball at the beginning of the second half! (That said, knowing George, there might have been some "poetic licence" in that yarn)
