Let me put it another way. Would the current Celtic A be top of the Super league now
I actually think they would, given how Westport have been playing. The thing is though, if Celtic were to be in the Super League (their A team I mean) then Westport would automatically up their game, so it's hard to tell. The more I think of it, the more I'm convinced that the whole Super league is suffering because of Celtic's absence. Not that I'm complaining, Fahy are partially where they are because of the lack of competitiveness of the division.
excatly, i do not know how you can say that the a league is similar standard to the super league.
if you seen derry city or finn harps play you would take back your statement straight away. the a league is streets ahead of the super league (no disrespect to the sl), ask anyone that has played in it.
there is no comparison.
as for westport, i think their first team would survive in the a league, however i dont think that they would survive long term. they dont own their own ground and the sports park probably isn't up to scratch and also have they the youths coming through to survive in the league of ireland long term?? their lack of success would suggest not
Come out of the clouds man will you. You`re not a league of ireland team, just a junior team with a few journey men who have ideas about themselves. The quality of some players in your team highlights this fact.
its big boys toys at its worst from what i have seen of the standard.
within 5 years i can almost guarentee us being in the first division while ye are still playing junior football. we are playing against better standard opposition in the likes of united park and the brandywell and yet you can't see that we are progressing as a club and ye are happy in yer little comfort zone.
we have two teams playing in the league of ireland so we are still a junior club are we?? i congratulated ye lot on winning the connaught senior cup, you cant do the same can you?? take off the rose tinted glasses and see like everyone else on this thread and in mayo football that this is only a good thing for mayo football and castlebar celtic!! at the end of the day, whether you like it or not, mayo now has 2 teams competing in the league of ireland. fact!![]()

I said this before but you lot were the only ones willing to make up the numbers from the west as a token gesture. The "A" league farce you are in is a waste of money and time travelling around the regions with little or no support for it in castlebar you will be broke in no time.Go to the fai website and you`d want to be an archaeoligist to dig out the A league section. You`ll be back in the mayo league where ye belong soon enough.![]()
no disrespect to the SL but the A league is way quicker and a lot more football played on the ground. this can only benefit celtic who at times play some lovely football on the ground and thats from playin against teams that like to play likewise. so westside i'd love to know how you think it's a junior team with a few journey men, it's players who want to play at a higher standard in better p[itches and learn how to play football the right way with passing and movement. and we are a senior team, we have 2 league of ireland teams. do i sense a hint of jealousy coming through again??? typical!
Reporter to Gordon Strachan: gordon, what's your impression of jermaine pennant? Reply: I don't do impressions!!
Playing football on the ground?Your supporters all have cricks in their necks from watching ye the last few years as d.flynn the javelin thrower is still getting a game with ye.Jealousy not an issue as your just junior wannabees, and you`ll be a long time trying to get into the first division at most with many teams up the pecking order waiting for a team to pull out.

pathetic!! maybe someone else can tell me the last time deccie flynn took a long throw because i cannot remember.
read the papers and see do we play ball on the ground. yes we do, ask nuetrals who have been at games do we play ball on ground, yes we do.
you are completely jealous of the fact that castlebar celtic are miles ahead of westport both on and off the pitch and you will never be as good as us again.
this saturday we play tullamore town in celtic park at 7.30pm. maybe you might come over to the county town and see a league of ireland game for yourself in your home county!!!

what games have you gone to this year to back up your statements?? dec flynn has been solid for us all year, one of our best players in fact and i can guarantee you can ask any of the supporters do they have CRICKS???? come to a game good lad and you'll see then before you go opening your mouth!! junior wannabees?? at least we want somethin and are trying to do something and we have the youth teams with players coming through to help us achieve our aims, what have ye got? not even a pitch so don't start with this childish s**t good lad!

Thats a little bit unfair Westside,in fact its stupid.
Do you genuienly believe that the A League is a farce??
Would you say the same if Westport were in it?
The Club is very sound financially and have budgeted long term for all this, along with that they have thier OWN ground,Do you?
Can you tell me who these so called Journey men are?
What games have you witnessed in the A League this year where you have had a crick in your neck?
I think most people know that Utd were the best team in Mayo for the last few years but the quality of the game is average to say. I have attended a number of S/L games not involving our S/L team and the standard was terrible. The A League is a much better standard which Utd would have no problem reaching after a couple of games (pity your club did not give your players the opportunity). What A games were you at this season? Look our S/l players were very surprised with the Utd performance two weeks ago and were not surprised with the heane victory. It’s a bit rich giving out about our positive move up and your club still left in the junior ranks. Come on credit were credit is due.
[QUOTE=FahyForever;1197514]Dont agree at all. Fahy are where they are because we deserve to be! We should have a few more points along the way too. We stepped it up this year.
Super league is the same as it always was, 3 or 4 teams competing to win, 1 or 2 teams struggling and the rest all taking points off each other. If the league wasn't competitive then Westport, Ballina and Erris would be beating every other team 5 or 6 nil every week. Not the case. Only 1 team being beaten almost every week, every other team can beat any team in the division on their day which makes it competitive?
Thats a Fair point, and they are going the right way for mayo football, the Celtic A, probably should have been an all around Mayo team to ensure promotion to a higher division at senior level. is the A league at a higher standard...good question..i would have to say it , as i can imagine every celtic A player is burstin their balls to get in the startin team and to play at their highest ability and beyond, where as westport are still probably gona win the super league and they not giving even 80%.
Surprised about you post trying to say the S/l is a similar standard as the A league, you are away off the mark on this one. Just watching both this season there is no comparison full stop. Even talking to the players they have confirmed this. I am not saying that the likes of Ballina, Westport, etc could not compete at this level. Yes some teams are not great but that’s the case in every league in the world.
