LIMERICK FC are to host a public meeting this Sunday evening, June 21 as speculation abounds as to the future of the city's 72-year-old League of Ireland senior soccer club.
The club have issued an appeal for "everyone with an interest in the future of senior soccer in Limerick" to attend the meeting in The Strand Hotel on Sunday at 7pm.
"Due to on-going negotiations Limerick FC is not currently in a position to respond to recent media speculation regarding the future of the club," explained a club statement released on Tuesday afternoon.
"However, we can assure everyone that the staff and the players of Limerick FC are fully aware of the situation within the club and the supporters will be informed of any further developments as they arise."
However, the club have accepted that they require a cash injection.
"Due to unforeseen circumstances the Limerick FC Board and Management Committee are currently seeking further investment," explained club's the statement.
"The club would like to ask the people of the mid-west to support Limerick FC."
The statement calls for a show of solidarity at Jackman Park this Friday night when high-flyers Shelbourne visit Limerick for a crucial League of Ireland First Division clash - Limerick currently lie 12 points behind leaders UCD.
"It is important that people come out and support Limerick this Friday in Jackman Park against Shelbourne and in their future fundraising endeavours. The club has come a long way in the last 18 months under the current Board and Management Committee. Limerick FC now has proposals in place to secure the future of the club through its new base in Knockalisheen and also its on-going aspiration to return to the Markets Field with the assistance of all bodies involved," the club statement read.

You can't spell failure without FAI
I suppose it's come about as we still dont have much to call our own so we have to rent training facilities and our home ground etc which I hear aint cheap. We dont seem to owe anybody money but it seems our chairman is getting tired of putting money into the club and would prefer to get out, i think whats putting him off is the slow progress the club is making off the field, tho we have been very active i think that he thinks he's brought us as far as he can
Upped and left ? You mean 'went bust and left 70 people without a job'.....
The difference then was that we came out and said what our unforeseen circumstances were - the loss of our main sponsor. Limerick are currently acting like someone's annoying little brother - 'I know a secret, you'll love to hear it - but I can't tell you'. There lack of openness therefore inevitably leaves one to speculate over whether it really is something completely unforseen.
If it was - why all the cloak and dagger ?
Who is Limerick's sponsor - the Leader ?
If the story is that their Chairman has had enough, then throwing-in the towel can't fairly be treated as an unforseen circumstance. It may have been unforseen - but it's in the Chairman's direct control.

it looks like jacks had enough and jumped ship (titanic) and the club are still tryting to entice him back on board so cannot release a statement until his sunk.
this maybe wrong but one can only speculate as ther is no real information forthcoming
p.s. is the move to the market fields still on or are you just going to the dogs
I wish i did not know then what I dont know now
Love how at times lke this fans of other clubs feel they have some God given right to be kept in the loop as to whats going on in other clubs business
Anyway this has come about because Limerick FC are a club that ply their trade in a God awful league in a country that doesn't have enough supporters to maintain interest in two divisions (maybe not even one). I doubt any other club in either division are rolling in it at the moment.
Also the Jack McCarthy throwing money at our club was always a rumour started by other clubs fans, look at our wage bill for this and last season and you'll see that he kept us afloat but was always looking for other investors to come in and help out
