Dave Mulcahy
Must get the hearing tested.............:p

It's Dave Mulcahy that has been released isn't it?
He left pats for the same reason. said it wasn't worth his while travelling to training if he wasn't going to be first choice.
In that case he was dead right, he should have been first choice. Pat's would have been better off holding on to him instead of wasting their money on Michael Keane.
I'd say there is more to this story than it simply being a case of Mul refusing to sit on the bench, it is well known the players were owed wages at the time of this game. Wouldn't be surprised if legal action is taken.
Surely they could have just given Roy Keane a bell and got a decent transfer fee though?
So what if Mulcahey was better? Shoujld he not have tried and win his place back rather than acting like a baby?
have a lot of sympathy for the guy.
The whole situation stinks down in Cork.
From what I've heard first hand it was made clear to Mulcahy by McDonnell that he would find it very difficult, if not impossible to win his place back, in that case he asked to leave. McDonnell agreed but wouldn't let him sign for any of Pat's rivals, (Scully was very keen) and allowed him to take his pick of the First div or go to Longford or back to Waterford. He chose to go back to Waterford (which, btw, is much nearer to the electrical company he runs in Kilkenny) and did a good job for them. Hardly the actions of a "baby"
I'd agree. He shouldn't have refused to play for City, if he wanted to leave he should have gone through the proper channels as you say.
Situation seems to be cleared up by this quote in the Echo in any case:
"We had a bit of a fall out in Sligo but havin travelled to Finland I was promised my chance. I was left stranded in Sligo because, with Pat Sullivan suspended, I thought my chance had come. I had enough of it and I told the manager that I would not sub or act as cover for the rest of the season. Its come to a head now and I am better off out of it. I dont want to play for Cork City now"
Surely he cant play for any other club under the three club rule.
I find the allegation above that Cork are in arrears on players wages the most interesting bit of this.
Surely a breach of licensing if true?
Well there was a bit more than that. (Initially threatening to leave unless he was only going to train once a week in Dublin etc) Oh and it wa actually Billy Gibson who took Mulcahey's place, and he was a far better player. You're 100% correct on Pats not allowing him join rivals, but only after Mulcahey told Pats he wouldn't be travelling to games. I was a huge fan of Dave's but he acted poorly last season
Sorry, yeah I knew it was Gibson who directly took his place, I was just referring to the Gibson, Keane partnership.
Gibson a far better player? Obviously you have seen more of Gibson than I have but I would not agree with that at all tbh.
Heard about the above story, but obviously from a different point of view. From what I've heard the reason Mul decided he wouldn't travel to away games was because he felt he was being treated unfairly by McDonnell on a number of occasions. Obviously that's no excuse for Dave saying he would only train once a week etc but that's where it seems to have originated from, that and the fact that he was dropped despite the fact that he was performing well for Pat's. But obviously people hear different sides of the story from different sources.
Oh and Muller wasn't playing well for us when he was dropped for Gibson
The 3 club rule won't apply. It was switched to 3 clubs in one season for summer leagues. He has only played for Cork this year
He's a free agent, so could sign for anybody. The window relates to transfers only.
Genuinely didn't mean to be smug (although apparently I can't help it). Just wanted to say it earlier and forgot.
He did well for Pats in 2006. last year he looked out of sorts and was replaced by a better player (Gibson). Of course I'd have loved him to stay around and be aprt of the squad, but it didn't work out that way.
Haha, was only joking:) With Dave being a part time player as he was then it was unlikely that he would stick around to sit on the bench, at least he had the right attitude in wanting to move, admittedly he may not have gone about this the right way, he certainly hasn't at City right now anyway.
I'd disagree that Gibson is a better player but that's just my opinion, you're entitled to yours...no matter how wrong it is!:p
If Mathews did promise him a start in Sligo and then renege then its bad form.
From A CCFC persepctive its another wage off the books in order to facilitate our 3 new signings.

"Stephen McGuinness, head of the Players' Union, was an excellent guest. He revealed that Cork City players were free agents because they hadn't been paid for three weeks ahead of the crucial Bohemians clash at Turner's Cross. What on earth is going on in Cork?
"The fact that the wages weren't paid JUST after the transfer window closed was too much of a coincidence as far as McGuinness was concerned. If that had happened a couple of weeks earlier the players could have left the club for nothing as City were in breach of contract."
Who knows. McGuinness has already lied about players' wages not being paid this season. (http://dundalkfc.com/News/080319_GerryMatthews.asp)
Is Billy Gibson still around dodge?
