It's Dave Mulcahy that has been released isn't it?

He left pats for the same reason. said it wasn't worth his while travelling to training if he wasn't going to be first choice.

In that case he was dead right, he should have been first choice. Pat's would have been better off holding on to him instead of wasting their money on Michael Keane.
I'd say there is more to this story than it simply being a case of Mul refusing to sit on the bench, it is well known the players were owed wages at the time of this game. Wouldn't be surprised if legal action is taken.
Surely they could have just given Roy Keane a bell and got a decent transfer fee though?
So what if Mulcahey was better? Shoujld he not have tried and win his place back rather than acting like a baby?

have a lot of sympathy for the guy.
The whole situation stinks down in Cork.
Yeah man, they call gambling a disease, but it's the only disease where you can win a bunch of money.
From what I've heard first hand it was made clear to Mulcahy by McDonnell that he would find it very difficult, if not impossible to win his place back, in that case he asked to leave. McDonnell agreed but wouldn't let him sign for any of Pat's rivals, (Scully was very keen) and allowed him to take his pick of the First div or go to Longford or back to Waterford. He chose to go back to Waterford (which, btw, is much nearer to the electrical company he runs in Kilkenny) and did a good job for them. Hardly the actions of a "baby"
I'd agree. He shouldn't have refused to play for City, if he wanted to leave he should have gone through the proper channels as you say.
Situation seems to be cleared up by this quote in the Echo in any case:
"We had a bit of a fall out in Sligo but havin travelled to Finland I was promised my chance. I was left stranded in Sligo because, with Pat Sullivan suspended, I thought my chance had come. I had enough of it and I told the manager that I would not sub or act as cover for the rest of the season. Its come to a head now and I am better off out of it. I dont want to play for Cork City now"
Surely he cant play for any other club under the three club rule.
We are the Galway Boys Stand up and make some noise"
I find the allegation above that Cork are in arrears on players wages the most interesting bit of this.
Surely a breach of licensing if true?
