They have wage problems so I guess releasing a few players will help pay Gamble's and Healy's big bucks for being average enough players. That club is so poorly run off the field, very frustrating as they have huge potential there.

He left pats for the same reason. said it wasn't worth his while travelling to training if he wasn't going to be first choice.

In that case he was dead right, he should have been first choice. Pat's would have been better off holding on to him instead of wasting their money on Michael Keane.

I'd say there is more to this story than it simply being a case of Mul refusing to sit on the bench, it is well known the players were owed wages at the time of this game. Wouldn't be surprised if legal action is taken.

Surely they could have just given Roy Keane a bell and got a decent transfer fee though?

have a lot of sympathy for the guy.

The whole situation stinks down in Cork.
Yeah man, they call gambling a disease, but it's the only disease where you can win a bunch of money.

You have to go through the proper channels and not just refuse to sit on the bench if you have a grievance. If he was claiming that his contract was broken he can't just decide on the spot not to fulfil it.

From what I've heard first hand it was made clear to Mulcahy by McDonnell that he would find it very difficult, if not impossible to win his place back, in that case he asked to leave. McDonnell agreed but wouldn't let him sign for any of Pat's rivals, (Scully was very keen) and allowed him to take his pick of the First div or go to Longford or back to Waterford. He chose to go back to Waterford (which, btw, is much nearer to the electrical company he runs in Kilkenny) and did a good job for them. Hardly the actions of a "baby"

I'd agree. He shouldn't have refused to play for City, if he wanted to leave he should have gone through the proper channels as you say.

Situation seems to be cleared up by this quote in the Echo in any case:

"We had a bit of a fall out in Sligo but havin travelled to Finland I was promised my chance. I was left stranded in Sligo because, with Pat Sullivan suspended, I thought my chance had come. I had enough of it and I told the manager that I would not sub or act as cover for the rest of the season. Its come to a head now and I am better off out of it. I dont want to play for Cork City now"

No, he can. Not sure if the ruling has changed to the calender year for us but either way he is fine. He has only played for Cork this season and only played for Cork since July 1.

I find the allegation above that Cork are in arrears on players wages the most interesting bit of this.

Surely a breach of licensing if true?

Players wages have been paid. There are no current arrears. Harps have already missed wages last month.

To OP - Just as well Kearney did not sit on the bench at Sligo as he wwas suspended.

Only a breach if they're still owed at the end of the season. However, if they get too far behind players can walk as free agents. I think it's three weeks or something.
