outbid us too. He was looking for 10,000 signing on fee. Very serious money. Especially considering you have O'callaghan and o'Flynn
and SPA have nothing :)Quote:

there was a thread about Fenn a few days ago, and people said they were not yet convinced by his quality, that his spurs past was what he was living on. I dunno, haven't seen enough of him yet. The most pleasing thing for me here, is that for the first time i can remember, CCFC are putting their money where their mouth is and really making a go of it. When was the last time we outbid a Dublin club, if ever?! I hope it works out. This is not just a signing IMO, its a statement of intentQuote:

Lads we are going to be bying this and that on the papers for the next 3 months so don't get in to this to much. Just sit back and look who Pat brings in.
remember Liam BLOB O'BrienQuote:

i thought at the time great an ex irish international player played at high level of football, cud only be great for city.. WRONG .. result total disaster
Fenn on the other hand has played with wwaaaaaahurford already this season and done well .. so moving to a bigger and better club like the rebel army as long as we get the same commitement , shud hopefully be ok as a signing
I think signing rivaldo wud be a good statement on intent but wud probably result in a doubling of the price of a fish supper in lennox's ... its all swings and roundabouts i guess :)
did we outbid anyone to sign BLOB?! I dunno, as i said anyways, its a statement of intent in my eyes
duno at the time who was interested in him
twas merely saying on the statement of intent thing
false dawns and all that.. most of us thought BLOB wud be a gud signing but were proved wrong
agree though that Fenn wud be a positive signing esp if the big club and the money club are looking at him also..
think the GOC re-signing on the pitch at halftime those weeks ago was another great statement of intent..
onwards on upwards from here on in i think :)
Georgie quit?! :D yeah, all these propaganda coups stink of Dolan. Lets just hope they have the desired effect!Quote:

Lennox has made good decisions so far so i don't doubt he will use money wisely in the close season.
10k a decent signing on fee nonetheless. Also depends on when player starts getting paid weekly wage... 10K worth a lot more outside the pale too...
I still expect big chances to the CCFC squad over the close season.
OPENING RAMBLE: Please don't take this the wrong way, it might sound like I'm having a go but honestly I'm not, nor was it my intention
The signing of Fenn may be a statement but a statement of what? Are Cork signing him for big money just to gazump the Dub clubs? Now from I've seen he looks a terrific player and I've no doubt he'll be an asset to your club but is he really worth that money? I'd love Pats to sign him but not at the cost relayed to me (the 10,000 per season signing fee, I didn't hear the wages) Now its great if Cork can afford this but surely it could be better spent elsewhere. If you signed Fenn purely to outbid the dub clubs, maybe they just rate him less than you do?
By no means can we afford that money but have no doubts that Shels can and if the right player comes along they'll spend it
Fair points dodge, but i definately think brian lennox knows what hes doing with hisd money and will only spend the right amount for a player and definately wont be held for ransom by anyone
Exactly. Let's just wait and see what happens. Personally, i think he'd be good and i agree that it's one over on the Dubs, but for now, just trust Brian.Quote:

Lennox knows what he's doing with his money alright no doubt about it.He wouldn't splash the cash unless he was really getting his value for money or Dolan assured him he was getting it.
Have ya ever gone in the lennox's when Brian was there and asked for a burger. The young fellas would always throw in a few chips with the burger.Do ya think old money bags lennox will throw a few scraps to a poor unfortunate city fan,ha,no chance.
The man is tight as a whore her first night on the job;)
Anyway only messing before ye all start ranting on at me about our beloved chairman.:p I'm serious bout the chips though, mean c**t:D
as big as this maybe
Lennox might know what he's doing but he's not want to get carried away with himself.
Clubs are falling into the debt trap all over the world waaay too easily at the minute.
Well if he needs to cut corners to get together the 10,000 needed for rejigging the squad you can do without your scabby extra chips.Quote:

And he can start charging ya for salt and sauce as well.;)
Hate to burst people's bubble on this point ( much and all as I would like to see Fenn coming "west along the road" ) but no one has been signed, and no one will be signed until January.
Also, I would rather wait until we hear something from the Club than speculate on gossip from such sources as the "Rovers Ulta's website".
For God sake Spillane is more reliable than them.
I dunno about that Spoel Nilliane has had a few clángers in his time .............Quote:

But yeah ... i rather wait and see what the club say on this.
I also think we should be setting our sights a bit higher aswell. Fenn is OK but he didn't set the place alight either.
Someone said earlier that we dont need anymore squad players, what we need are players who will come up with the goods. There cant be any messin' about next year.
Fenn may have looked for 10000euro from Pats to relocate to Dublin, but city might not have had to match that to get him to Cork where property prices / cost of living is lower. (He might not even have to move from his current home). i think a move to city would be more reliant on the weekly wage / length of contract than a sign on bonus.
He was looking for 10,000 PER YEAR as a signing fee + wages. He claimed he thats what Cork had offered.Quote:

:D ....and you didn't think he was just haggling?????Quote:

I haven't seen him all that much this year, he does look a very good player, who would be a first team rather than a squad addition, but that sounds like a little bit too much money for him, in my humble opinion.
Thats why I said claimed. ;)Quote:

Poster on the Pats MB says there's a report in one of today's 'papers saying he's signed a 3 year deal with ye....
Yes dodge it was in the sun and that we signed him for three year's have to wait and see if we did or not.
If Fenn has been signed and the reported money is correct, it IS a statement by the club.
It states that we are prepared to pay the money to get the players we think are the right ones for City.
It's a statement to say that when other clubs are interested in the same players as us, we will pay to get them, and not just let the other club sign them because of money.
It is a statement that the Chairman, Board and Manager of Cork City FC are serious about building this club up to being one that competes every season.
It is a statement that our Chairman will do what he feels is necessary to achieve his aim of making City the dominant club in the eL.
Even if some of those aims are not ever achieved, it is a statement that we are going to try our hardest to realise those aims, not give some lipservice to them.
It is a statement that Brian Lennox is going to make our dreams happen.
mmmmm Vida Guerra ina city shirt....Quote:

seriously though, while we'd never afford to spend money like that on 4 or five players, i think fenn would be worth it. id love to see john o flynn and another quality striker up front with george behind them, and thats the road we seem to be going down.
and i ask you .. how beautiful is that eh?Quote:

fair point, but I think even if that were the case it would be a good thing psychologically. Its a case of City saying " we can mix it with the big boys" or however you want to phrase it. I think he's an excellent player and will be a great signing, but I think the fact that we're putting money where Dolans mouth ;) is, is a big step forward.Quote:

On another forum, we managed to conclusively prove that tabloids nick stories from online forum gossip.Quote:

Doyle ----- Nwanko------Kearney
--- O' Callaghan----
--- Flynn ------- Fenn----
Waterford turn against Fenn already
:D Hes crap, apparently. And they didn't want him anyway.
BTW Counting Crow has really ****ing off the natives up on this forum.
Why january?Quote:

Is the window not open til then?
pointless signing a player now in weeks immediately after season ends
presume players off on holidays for a while / no training
so you sign a player now u have to pay him while he's doing nothing??
whenever training restarts is the time to have the players lined up to sign
(duno if thats january or not)
i remember with GOC initially signing for us there was a prob similar to when he signed and not signing him b4 the team started training so as not to be paying him for doing nothing ..
I'm not sure that Neale Fenn is as good as a lot of people seem to think he is, and I certainly don't think he's worth the figures that have been bandied about here. The guy was a journeyman in England after he left Spurs, fair enough he had a handful of good games for Waterford but no more than that.
In my opinion Fenn is a very similar player to George O'Callaghan i.e. someone who won't score a lot of goals but who'll probably create his fair share for others. I just don't see why ye needed Fenn and how ye will accomodate both him and O'Callaghan in the same team when they both like to take on the same role.
I think Cork have taken a huge gamble here almost just for the sake of saying you trumped the Dublin teams to get his signature. Could come back to haunt ye.
And by the way, this isn't a case of sour grapes since Fenn would have left for a Dublin club if he hadn't have joined Cork, no way he would've been with Waterford next year so no hard feelings, eh!
The only worry that I would have is that Fenn is not being signed to play with O'Flynn but rather as his replacement. I've no basis for this just a niggly worry that I have.
Other than that perhaps Georgie in the centre of Midfield.
Devine
Hoggie Dan Derek Woods (until we hopefully sign Frost)??
Doyler Georgie Colin T Kearney
Fenn O'Flynn
Nolan, Greg, Nwanko, Behan, Benno
according to www.btid.tk he has signed for us already
That was a fast "edit post". You dropped Benno fairly quickly. Like some other manager i could mention.:DQuote:

I have it on good authority that Flynny will still be a City player next season.Quote:
