Funny it's the same here, can't wait for Derry, but wish it was in Finn Park.

Another cup for us! :D
Fifth time playing Sligo in cups in just over two years and haven't won once - can't see it changing with Roddy's youth selection policy for the competition either.
How Bray are regionalised with us and Pats and UCD are regionalised with the Langers and Lims I don't know.
I can see your point it should be Cork, Limerick, Waterford, Wexford, Bray and 1 south Dublin team. There are no overnight trips like Waterford-Finn Harps or Cork-Derry (at least untill the draw is a open draw)
Im disappointing to get Limerick, i would have preferred to play pats or UCD. I just hope we don't get Limerick in the cup either.
i say just dont bother with regions
what difference is it after the first round? We could draw Derry in the quarters or semis easily enough.
I suppose the regions make sense for the non league teams (which makes no sense by the way - its the League Cup), asking them to travel cross country is a bit harsh and if they get through a coupe of rounds the gates would pay for the travel expenses.
I don't have a problem with the regionalised early rounds. The competition has become an inconvenience in the last few years and attendances are fairly paltry so anything that keeps the costs down at all is only beneficial overall IMO.
The League cup is a horrible competition, I mean, being able to give reserve and under 19's players a competitive game when there is no reserve league anymore is a disgrace.
Seriously though, if they made it regionalised groups with every team playing each other once and top 1 or 2 go through to next round would be much more beneficial. Our under 19's are 3 points away from winning the league, we have some cracking players that would maybe need another year or 2 before coming into the first team, we face the prospect of losing around 8 players from that 19's squad who are overage next year as we have no games to offer them.
If we had a guaranteed 3 or 6 league cup games to offer them game time it would go some way to convincing them to stay at the club.
It's not as if the regionalised system means your travelling more than 2 hours to an away game.
Ah I suppose you were right. I forgot that there's no extra cost at all involved in travelling to these games if away, running them if you're at home, paying for officials and whatever else. The gates are pitiful and the prize money isn't much better. The League Cup is many things but a money spinner it is not.
Regionalised is the ONLY way to go.
:sigh:
What are ye doing with eight about to be overage players that aren't going to be good enough for the senior team??Quote:

8 players who will be overage next season for the 19's but not physically strong enough for a full season in the 1st Division.
If they are part of the squad all season though and can be offered a number of competitive games it would go some way to keeping them at the club.
Should be able to offer them competitive games in the league tbf. The Division is probably going to be hoss again next year. (assuming Harps don't get promoted!)
We've four or five under 19s involved in the senior setup this year, as well as two or three fairly regulars who only came up last year and are probably going to have a look at at least two of the four over agers I'd say.
