The whole Director of Football thing has always seemed strange to me, particularly if he is signing the players. Has it ever worked ? For me, a manager just has to be in charge of recruitment. Very unfair to judge a manager with a squad that someone else has chosen.Quote:

I think the point of a DoF is it's a middle man to allow the directors (running the club) keep a check on the manager - arguably player recruitment is the single most important thing about a football club, and giving one person carte blanche over it is a bit of a risk. Considering you also have a head of academy in place I doubt that O'Brien is only overseeing the academy. Even if he was you also have Alan Matthews as a technical director... It seems there are many more people involved in the first team decision making than just John Daly.Quote:

Bigger picture is fixing a serious amount of off field stuff. Read on Orielweb, for example, that the Patreon scheme hasnt been updated in a season or 2(?) but auto renew wasnt flagged if Patreon was retired - its small but basic stuff that grinds gears and the small stuff that adds up to the disconnect between club and fans that jounalists are feeding in to. Not sure what Im saying in relation to the above bar Malley and Sheppard and other stuff either wishful thinking or doomsday for live at Oriel.

Dutch striker who's played with Hereven and Telstar. Been with the club for months and pre season so should be well settled in. Think the club were holding back on signing as he was coming back slowly from an injury. Young lad looking to prove himself, so might be interesting.
I did see Gerry tweet about it but have heard the Kenny info from a couple of places now. Could be something to it.

Itd be so much fun if Feeney was o the list to go the other way. Unlikely but hey it would be a true GLITW moment. I think Devine could be a specialist caretaker manager, he gets teams playing for a while but then fades, if you were looking for a late punt against relegation you wouldnt bet the house against him. Why do things go south fo him? Does he take the same backroom team in and needs to change it up. He was at odds with Fenlon at Bohs but the pattern is there.

This is an issue and not easy to see at times. Deserves a bit more respect imo, and we all know the eccentricities without making someone look foolish even if the bait is easily taken.
