Very disappointing last program. I got all excited when it was to be about "British Indie" but after the 20 minutes about the smiths and not enough about the stone roses the rest was an Oasis and Blur homage which I certainly wouldnt class as indicitive of the British Indie movement.
very average series overall. The punk episode bored me - how can they make something as exciting and dangerous as punk turn make me want to switch over?
Oasis and Libertines are two of my favourite bands from my generation but it was slow going.
Didn't see the indie one and probably dodged a bullet.
Saw the "grunge" one from the previous week late on Friday ...full of revisionist spin (the lillies/floral stage arrangement for the MTV unplugged -a performance which no-one gave a sh1te about when it was recorded incidently-was rationalised as Cobain "designing his televised funeral"). It pumped out a lot of the conventional "spokesman for a generation/tortured soul" stuff about Cobain while ignoring other researchable facts.
For example... the In Utero LP having failed to come anywhere close to sales expectations with the consequence that his label, management and assorted associaties worked him into a nervous breakdown adding dates upon dates to a touring schedule in an attempt to jump-start sales on a record that was pretty much dead in the water.
The bullet caught up with me as it was re-shown last night. Bad in places, appalling in others. I had to leave the room during The Smiths feature as it felt like a Sky News parody.Quote:

Last nights show should've been renamed Seven Ages of Pub-Rock.
As for The Libertines ...up until last night I was under the misguided impression that Pete Doherty was the only high-tossing ass monkey in that band. More a soap opera with a (highly derivative) soundtrack than a band.
Really felt like Rock'n'Roll was on it's last legs watching them ...so I switched off and went to bed.
