Looks like Roy's radar for selecting new players that he can use, is very limited.
It's okay in a firefight emergency to drag in a few knowns but at this stage of his time at Ipswich it looks to be managerial ineptness.
He tried the other option with Sunderland last season and look what happened. Cisse, Diouf, Tainio and Malbranque (good player to be fair) etc......I can see why he is resorting to bringing in players he can trust after such a poor start. Seriouslly though he must be. There is obviouslly something he sees in him(the few times he has seen him?!), I wonder though where would he play him and would he be a bit part player? Does 1mil not seem like a lot of money for someone who has come through the academy and has never aroused interest from other PL clubs?!

This would be a great move. Garvan played all his schoolboy football with Chris McCann. Interestingly Coyle also tried to sign another ex Home Farm teammate Darren O'Dea last season.
Garvan & McCann together would be interesting all right, and under a really impressive manager. I think both are left-footed though so one or the other may have to take a less-favoured position.

If both McCann and Garvan are good enough to play in Centre Midfield, then both should do so, irrespective of whether they are right or left footed - esp in the 4-5-1 formation often deployed by Coyle.
I asked my self the same thing when I was writing it. I suppose it's just because very often left-footed players are played on the left in the absence of a genuine wide player. I think McCann is currently played on the left - if newspaper lineups are anything to go by.Quote:

The second-best* "two-footed" player I've ever seen was David Ginola. He tended to be played on the left, but was equally at home on the right. Apparently he was very right-footed as a kid, but when he joined his first senior club, they had a right winger who was firmly established in that position, so Ginola was advised to practise his left.
I've no idea how much work he had to put in, but he was as good down the left as any other winger I've ever seen, so it can be done.

Late Edit: Thinking about it, George Best might actually have been the best (sorry) two-footed player I've ever seen. I remember once reading that to amuse himself, he once set out playing a game determined only to touch the ball with his left foot. According to the story, he actually got through the entire first half, before forgetting himself when someone passed him the ball at the beginning of the second half! (That said, knowing George, there might have been some "poetic licence" in that yarn)
Yeah United played Anderson out the left against Burnley, presumably just because he's left footed. Made no sense to me.
Ronaldo is excellent with both feet but obviously right footed. Nani, for all his faults, seems pretty cofortable off both as well.
There is absolutely no inherent/physiological reason why that should be, so I suspect it may be because left-footed players are simply more visible than right footers.Quote:

Speaking personally, I often got picked on the left for teams where I wouldn't normally have been good enough to play in the centre or down the right. This was because being left-handed, people incorrectly assumed I was also left-footed (I'm left-handed/right footed, an unusual but by no means unique combination).
Anyhow, being left-handed, I was never scared of trying to kick with my "wrong" (left) foot, so that eventually I became near equally proficient/useless with both!
Consequently, if I was coaching young kids, I would actually ban them from using their "good" foot until their weaker foot improved.
We actually just had a "2 footedness" (ambipedalicness?) debate on the Aiden McGeady thread EG.
Arshavin is a current example of excellent 2 footedness. A player of similar talent and physique is Modric, but he's remarkably one footed I'm sure you'll agree. My club bias has nothing to do with this observation.
I do think the lack of left-footers in the game means they do tend to get shunted out to the left wing, rather than have their natural talent "wasted" in the centre of the pitch, where a right footer could do as well a job

Obviously he's one of the players that Keane was talking about when he said that he had players that wouldn't play for him again. Garvan is as good as gone tomorrow I'd say.
Keane says he had a good chat with Trigs who never heard of Garvan either, so they decided to cut this mysterious lad. Luton is looking into Garvan according to Trigs.
given the fans' reaction to the sale of Rhodes, and his impact at his new club, how do you feel they'll react to the sale of Garvan?
Got a mate at work, who's an Ipswich fan who reckons that Garvan's pace and workrate are the biggest stumbling block to his future development.
Appears that Burnley are in for him in a £1million deal - if anyone can get the best out of him Coyle can, so hopefully it'll come off:

Why do players like McGeady and Brown (certainly head and shoulders above the rest of those names you list) stay at Celtic? Wouldn't they earn far more money playing in England? I wonder about player's motivations. If I was as good as these two, I wouldn't waste my time playing such a low standard of football, I'd rather play for a team like Bolton or Everton.Quote:
