I heard that alright. Seems there is a truth that Fahy will use their pitch anyway.

i think there was a "naming a squad" thing a few years ago, where you could play only a few games with a higher team. Anyone remember it?seems to have changed because it was hard to police it. teams like ballyglass (i think) got deducted a lot of points one season, 5 games AFTER an illegal player was discovered, with no notification given after the first offence. (apologies if incorrect. can someone clarify?) this new free rule eliminates the above possibility.
I agree with you about the ML. they want an easy life, and this helps them, but i cant blame them for that. They are a well-run, voluntary organisation, and put most other leagues to shame.:ball:
This is crazy. Why did they only decide this now, when westport and castlebar were winning these leagues the last few years and couldnt get promoted? Baffling stupidity! what about all the other divisions with b+c teams? Do they not get promoted to Div 1 or Prem? I dont doubt you don, but This cant go ahead:ball:
Its not a bad idea, but it would take a longer transition than 2 years. There would need to be some promotion chance in 09 for a prem team.
Also, do you mean that the 8th place team is relegated automatically, and that the 7th place team gets a play-off with a prem div team?
This wouldnt work due to the standard of some B teams being way above other clubs B teams. Its not a level playing field. it would be dominated by a top 3/4, and a lot of total mismatches.:ball:
This has been an enjoyable debate.
as some posts have said, there is no ideal solution, and no one proposal is going to please everyone.
The over-riding fact is this: Any team that wants to get to the top division has to earn it, and that means that they have to beat ANY team put in front of them, even if that team is another clubs c or b team.
If you cant beat a clubs C or B team, then you dont stand much chance of beating the clubs A Team in a higher division, or the top division, and dont deserve the right to be there.:ball:
Any word on when the new season starts? or when are the new fixtures out?
5th april for all league bar the super league. did not see any fixtures yet
6 weeks after
Heard that all games are going to be Saturday evening for Super League? Maybe thats why its starting in May so theres enough light!
Also it gives a break to the SL teams still left in the conn and fai junior cups. I'd say they'll play a couple of rounds of the super cup and Mayo cup in April maybe?
any thoughts on the mayo oscar traynor game this weekend?
According to the papers mayo seemed to control the game, fair play to them, would be good for mayo soccer for them to go on and win it. Looking at the squad picture in the CT they have a very strong squad. Is the semi fixed for the 15th of feb or is that a predicted date?
One sided affair alright, Mayo should've been about 3 or 4 up at half time. Very strong squad with the duffy and dessie injured, neary, mcdonnell, walsh, hoban and ryan in reserve.
Dont think that UCL league is that strong from the look of the pick of players. All the better players probably play in the LSL or AUL leagues.
Think its set for 15th alright, wont be a walk in the park against AUL though!!
Connacht Cup Sunday: KO 2pm
Westport vs Cliffoney utd
celtic vs ballygawley
city utd vs erris
snugboro vs s&f
No Mayo based players in the Republic of Ireland Amateur team which is a shame.
Republic of Ireland Squad: Graham Doyle (Freebooters FC), Dwane Crosby (Ardee Celtic), Shane Dunne (Killester Utd),James Walsh(St. Michaels FC), Graham Doran(WFTA FC), Mark Sheehan (Regional Utd), Mark Doherty (Newcastle West FC), Conor Dillon (St. Kevins FC), Willie Molloy (Sheriff YC), Tony O' Kane(Sheriff YC), Keith Harnett (Pike Rvs.), Paul Phelan (New Ross Cel.), Derek McCarthy (Kinsale FC),Brendan O' Driscoll (Camp Utd), Alan Barry (St. Michaels FC), Barry Kavanagh (Ballymun Utd), Paul Cummins (Aishling Annacotty), Derek Varian (Kinsale FC).
I don't know, don't know the standard of the players selected. But with Mayo sides regularly making the latter stages of the FAI Cup and now in the semi final of the Oscar Traynor, i thought there might of been a decent exposure for some of the players to get noticed. Joe Lawless or Martin Geraghty maybe.
Do they have trials?
4 home wins i'd say....

howya lads any truth in the rumour that there will be a division 3 this year instead of two division 2(A and b)?
And how are they going to decide which teams will be in Div. 3?
Sorry lads for asking a stupid question but how does this info get into the public domain? Just interested as there was also the A team and B team rules that someone posted a few days ago.
Also how will they decide who gets into div 2 and 3?
Maybe those who finished in the top half of div 2a and 2b will play in division 2 and those towards the bottom will play in div 3.
Has there been an announcement by Milebush? Where did this rumour come from? It would appear that all of the problems aired on this site have been solved with these proposals! Or have they?
This was the thread, maybe it is all wishes!!

All Clubs secretaries were posted out a copy of the plans for the 2009 season and it does say that there will be a Division 3 this season.
the rules regarding A and B team players as outlined on the thread http://foot.ie/showthread.php?t=111061 are also on this list of changes for the 2009 season.
How will the clubs know whos signed a or b. Will the league print the squads and give them to the clubs.
there was talk of printing them and sending them to all clubs involved in the league.
How do you figure having a Div.3 would affect teams from entering external competitions?
