But being totally ejected from the process for the 2nd year running is a disgrace.
Last year, the application was 'late'. Again it's all about who you are I guess. Derry and Cork were whisked back in without a second thought.

What more harm will it do? It will help towards preventing Galway United supporters being consumed by Connacht Rugby. It's happening as it is.
GUST ran Galway United for the 2011 season. They could have done a Monaghan and let the club fold. Are you seriously suggesting that GUST ran GUFC into the ground?
It's hardly as though GUST will take fans away from Mervue and Salthill!
The FAI realize the current mess is because of there being too many clubs. Going back to 3 clubs would create a division between GUST and the other 2 clubs.
Ideally the solution would be for Mervue and SD to row in behind GUST's 'One Club, One City, One County' vision.
The one real problem is how slow this has all been. The FAI said there would be on-going talks through the season but nothing seems to have been done and now we're in exactly situation as s year ago.
Bluewhitearmy - I'm no great fan of GUST but the facts are they HAVE kept the show on the road. The fact the road is not the Airtricitt League is down to the FAI rejecting their application for being 'late'. They didn't take the cowards way out like
Monaghan, and instead fulfilled ther league fixtures. They have an U-19 team on the go this year, have secured a training ground, forged links with local clubs and the community which were there before but were destroyed after the cclub appointed a convicted fraudster as their marketing man, who then rose through the ranks to become CEO.
Yes, we celebrated wildly when promoted on the back of a DVD - who wouldn't have? - but we were burned for the experience and are now trying to do things right. The fact the FAI - not exactly hailed by LOI fans at the best of times - has consistently put obstacles in the path of GUST is not GUST's fault. Any bitterness from fans of other clubs in relation to the the DVD promotion is a bit stale at this stage, but I'd those fans can't see what's happening to fellow LOI fans, then that is a sad day for all genuine fans everywhere
Ok, went back to the 2011 Attendances thread and the last attendance summary is here. Galway Utd had an average attendance of 850, and that was in a season where they finished rock bottom of the Premier and were getting hammered every week. These fans are clearly not going to Salthill or Mervue. The LOI cannot afford to turn its back on a support base of this size. Are you telling me that if a team called Galway Utd were in the league next year then they wouldn't be tempted back? And don't compare the attendances of U19 games which are clearly not the same thing as senior LOI games.
Seriously? Wise up. GUST already have a good fanbase, and the support of football all across Galway including 99% of the junior and intermediate teams. This alone, puts them streets ahead of both Mervue and Salthill.
It was a thoroughly despressing moment when we realised that a group of about 50 Harps fans outnumbered the home support at our most recent visit to Terryland Park against SD Galway.
Oh for the love of . . . Okay, last year they insisted the GUST application was late, and no one would have a problem with that only for the fact both Derry City and Cork City FORAS Co-op were also late with their applications in previous seasons, but the rules were bent for them.
This time around, an aapplication for the information pack went ignored for a number of weeks, and now Delaney has said "thanks but no thanks". That's just 2 eexamples of how GUST has been treated
Ideally, 3 clubs in Galway would be based around the entire county, not the city.Quote:

It's not like there are 20,000 people from Galway waiting to throng Terryland every couple of weeks if the big city club get their way.
As I said, it's hardly as if Galway are going to take supporters away from Mervue and Salthill, but that's no reason why Mervue and Salthill shouldn't be in the league. 3 clubs in Galway isn't going to kill football in the city. If any of the clubs aren't viable, licensing should by rights take care of it. If GUST have a viable plan for a club that satisfies the letter of the law with regard to licensing, they should be allowed in. As should any other club. There's enough fudge in the league as it is.
Can anybody explains to me why neither Salthill nor Mervue has gone bust yet? Surely the underage sides aren't funding this folly?
