By late afternoon the Glenshane Pass and the main Derry to Belfast road echoed to the Car horns of a convoy of around 800 Derry supporters travelling to the home of Northern Irish football.....A samba band entertained the crowd but was often drowned out by the vocal support of Derry fans. Both sets of supporters were asked by the respective clubs to wear only the colours of their team but Spion Kop, the home of the Belfast team's most ardent fans was bedecked in union flags and Red Hands of Ulster.
The homeside's support was outsung by Derry's travelling fans who, as the match wore-on, increasingly enjoyed the occasion. Eight Hundred voices sang the Undertone's classic Teenage Kicks.
