It is with deep sadness and profound loss that we mourn the passing of our dear friend and colleague in the football world, Liam McEntee, at such a young age. Our deepest sympathies are extended to his wife Samantha, daughter Jennifer and sons Conor and Ciaran. Our sympathies are also offered to Liam’s father, brothers, sisters and extended family members and friends.
Liam’s brave battle with cancer over recent months was indicative of the strong will, character and resilience of the man. Despite his serious illness in recent times, Liam was always positive and showed great determination in fighting his illness, and was at all times positive about the future. He never allowed his pain or suffering to overcome his desire to return to normal life – but this was not to be.
Liam’s involvement in football in Mayo started some 11 years ago when his pals Brendan Gibbons and Mick Walsh encouraged him to take up refereeing within the Mayo League. Having been an outstanding football player himself with Tolka Rovers and Collins Utd in the Dublin Leagues, Liam adapted very easily to the role of referee. It was only a short number of years later that he commanded the position of leading referee in the county, and indeed within the province, having officiated at many finals at county and provincial level. Liam had a marvelous rapport and understanding with players, and his intelligent, common sense approach, along with a calming influence eased many a difficult situation on the field of play – this in turn was to make him one of the most highly respected referees in the county.
In his working capacity, Liam was equally professional in everything he did. His ability to talk, listen and communicate with people was one of his greatest assets. This ability, along with his intelligent and respectful manner, allowed him to develop a close and healthy working relationship with all his work colleagues.
We have lost a dear friend and colleague, who was highly respected throughout the entire football community. His gentlemanly ways brought him many friends, and he was so easy to work with whatever the circumstance. He was always fast to praise, positive in his outlook, and generous in his admiration for others. We will most of all miss his friendship along with his quick “Dublin wit” and good humour, and we will forever remember his generosity of gratitude to those who cared for him during his recent illness. Liam McEntee was a loving, caring family person who will be deeply missed by his devoted family. We thank all those who cared for Liam during his illness. May he rest in peace.

The Chairman of the Mayo League, Pat Quigley, offered his sympathies to the McEntee family and expressed the Leagues feelings on the death of Liam:-
“We are deeply saddened today with the sad news of the death of a dear football colleague and friend. Liam McEntee was an outstanding referee who gave tremendous service to the game of football in Mayo over the past 11 years. His untimely death at such an early age has left has left a huge void to fill for his family and those nearest and dearest to him. I had several discussions with Liam during his illness, and he always projected a positive manner with the hope of returning to full health, and to the playing fields - this however was not to be the case. We offer our deepest sympathies to his wife Samantha, and children Jennifer, Ciaran and Conor along with his father, brothers and sisters. As a mark of respect the entire Mayo League programme for this week end has been postponed. May he rest in peace.”

Where are we playing ye sunday?
swinford v conn rangers away
moy villa v glenisland home
claremorris b v ballina utd home
cross celtic v snugboro draw
swinford v conn rangers Draw
moy villa v glenisland Draw
claremorris b v ballina utd Home
cross celtic v snugboro Away
Those results would make it interesting!
Swinford 0 : 2 Conn Rangers - Dodgy peno decision for the first, but Conn deserved the win
Us 0 Snugboro 3, well deserved win for Snugboro.
I agree they deserved the 3 points but the margin does not reflect that they only had 5 shots on goal.
claremorris b 10-5 ballina utd, some game cmorris 9 nil up but switched off and let ballina utd in for 5 goals before rounding it off at 10 :D
All very tight at the top, five teams can still possibly get promoted. What's the prediction?
too tight to call really.i would personally think snugboro are outsiders, apart from that its imposible to call.claremorris have already exceeded all expectations and begining of the year predictions
Think Moy Villa are starting to stall! couple of bad results at home for them
any one hear any thing regarding a resolution to this issue (moy villa played suspended player in fixture in claremorris) i have heard that league are to replay the fixture and that moy villa have appealed this. also correct me if i'm wrong but i did not think a replay is in the mayo league rules.
Whatever the outcome, the league made a right hash of it......that ones being going on for months...if it is a replay when will they play it?? cant see that happening...if illegal(suspended) player played then 3 points to the opposition...surely they can find time at meetings to make decisions like this...after of course the big decisions re fundraising !
Claremorris B v Moy Villa match to be repayed Nov 8th, with final league fixtures on Nov 15th. That makes next Sundays Snug v Chastown an even bigger match, as both now in with real chance of promotion if Moy drop points in Claremorris.
It's on a revised email 26th October, the oscar traynor match is on the 8th and all league matches are at 11 AM Sunday morning.
8th November
Oscar Traynor Mayo v Inishowen at 2pm
Super League Round 12 Fahy Rovers v Snugboro Utd
Premier Division Round 15 Ballinrobe Town v Swinford,
Division 1 Round 16 Killala v Clew Bay
Division 2 Round 4 Claremorris 'B' v Moy Villa
All League matches at 11.00am
 - ......official e-mail from league...don't know what E-Mail you refer to...
The point is that the replayed game can have a significant impact on both the winners position and/or the promotion place, and it would be unfair on other teams in Div 2 if one game was left after the final round of games.
ballina utd v swinford b= away
glenisland v cross= home
conn rangers v moy villa= draw
snugboro b v charlestown= draw
Snugboro V Charlestown postponed. Waterlogged pitch. At this rate the league won't be decided by Christmas.
Crazy decision... seems like some one didnt want to play this fixture.....Snugboro A team away to Westport and some players asked to go from what i hear .... we offered to switch the fixture and were told it was a no go. Also ref that inspected the pitch was the ref for westport game  all seems a bit fishy to me...... wouldnt even agree to a later kick off, and from talking to some of our guys over there the pitch had no surface water at all. No one to blame here except the Snugboro guys. We did all we could to play the fixture and if it does go to Christmas ur commitee still wont let ye play on the pitch.
I think your apportioning blame a little too widespread there murphs. I can guarantee every member of the Snugboro B panel and management wanted to play today. The A game later has absolutely on affect on the B panel, regardless if a few lads were asked to tog or not.
Playing it in Charlestown would always be a non runner, you'd struggle to find any team in the world willing to give up home advantage at this stage. The game will likely be next week. Not everything is a conspiracy theory.
What are you on about Murf? commitees dont call off games its up to the ref. and as if the boro were going to give up home advanatage to go play ye in your pitch. jez would you think about it. would you????
also how is it a bit fishy that the ref was reffing both?whats our argument there?
get over it is was called off like many other games id presume today
Heard a reliable boro commitee member said early this week that this game wouldn't be played this weekend....... and as for giving up home advantage , its not like your going to get 20,000 screeming supporters at any game is it....... catch a grip. If ye wanted to play this game it could have been played simple as ..... why not leave it till later afternoon before writing it off??? Its obvious that there were some other factors from where we are standing. Some of your lads turned up while our guys were there and they were shocked that the pitch was deemed unplayable.
as you said that the same ref was down to ref in the afternoon so he wouldnt ba available for it to be re-fixed during the day.
You wouldnt give up home advantage for such a crucial game no matter what you say, simple as....
plus whatever dusty tells ya committee members dont call off games. its up to the ref and im sure the ref wants a bit of extra money so he wouldnt want to call it off. from what i hear the boro had a full strenght squad for this game, never mind the A team as they have nothing to play for and wouldnt take any of the B teams starting 11 only there fringe players if they were needed to make up numbers.just play it next week and stop being such a winge just because you had to get up early:D
