Pieterson's SR -> 105.12, hardly stagnated is it
Thks. Am watching live run updates on my PC at work. like watching paint dry!
That's bad news - Pietersen only had to face 9 balls from the last 5 overs. I'd have preferred to keep Bell there all day and restrict the run rate. At a strike rate of under 42, that would have worked out as a target to chase somewhere around 175/180.
I'd rather see Ireland try to keep a low scorer on strike and restrict the runs than end up with Pietersen and Flintoff coming out swinging!
Wonder if the pitch will accept some spin from Kyle.
97/3 off 23 overs
Need to get one of these Out quickly.
Pietersen out c Porterfield b McCallan 48
117/4 :) off 27.1
What did I say :D
Flintoff can be poor or brilliant, which one will come up.
Hope Boyd is alright
Dave LS has struggled so far, hopefully he can be better.
We need to restrict them to under 220. We must bowl them out before the 50 overs.
D/L method at the moment would predict a score of 240 for England after 50 overs.
That would make for a very tight game - I think both teams would fancy their chances at that - As was mentioned, under 220 gives Ireland a really good shout
Roughly what time will Ireland commence batting?
roughly in an hour's time
Pretty sure we broke 200 against Zimbabwe. The Pakistan game was on very much a bowler's wicket by the looks of it too.
*edit* Flintoff gone! 194/5.
266 for 7 (50.0)
Can't see Ireland matching that TBH :(
That's more than enough for England. Collingwood hauled them out of the soup. I don't think Johnston was fit enough to play, and certainly not to bowl ten overs.
Would be nice if we could atleast make them sweat a bit.
6 for 1.
Not agood start.
Jesus, 15 for 2 in the 6th over...not good at all. :o
26/2 - just like the English were after 7 overs!
I think the target is too much, If Ireland get about 225, that would be a great achievement.
Ireland are playing very aggressively. If luck stays on their side with regards to wickets they may just make it. I think they'll at least reach a double century.
62 for 2 after 15 overs. Beeb saying that England "don't look like taking a wicket" ;)
72/2 ...doin well :)
I think we should risk it, try to hit 4's and 6's
We only need about 15 or 20 of them.
Great Effort by the lads in the end, this might give them so much confidence in the other games, they were not humbled at all and gave England a real fright near the end.
very good showing. great to watch the johnston/white partnership towards the end, humbling the england bowlers!
i agree that johnston didnt look fit to bowl, he seemed to grimace a lot. it was a shame rankin got cramp, we would have had a genuine chance otherwise i think. england were poor by and large, on that display they've no chance of reaching the semis. our boys can be very satisfied with their performance, hopefully we can get a win against the bangladeshis
very well done by the lads... they proced they can cope and rise to play the top teams... *claps*
I think the bowling was our strong point if I be honest, but on the last few games v Windies and Now England, they have some what cracked as it were, need to be much better in the future games.
England are dreadful, they'll be battered by the top teams and I wouldn't be surprised if they only win 1 more game. Ireland should target Bangadesh for the only win the super 8. Legs are getting tired and it will only get worse. I'm not looking forward to Australia, SA etc...
We need our top batsmen to build a couple of decent partnerships. The early wickets are putting pressure on the rest. I'd also like to see Rankin and Lanky bowl 3/4 over spells in the heat rather than 5/6. Rankin has quite along run up and he's looked a bit knackered at times. The last ten overs in each innings have done for us plus their spin bowlers bogged us down. Still Michael Vaughan was a worried looking man at times. We gave them something to think about and weren't disgraced.I wonder how we'll get on against the English Counties this summer after this and will they release their Irish players to us.
Quote of the day had to be David Lloyd who remarked that some of the Irish players could be following Ed Joyce and playing for England soon. Doesn't say much for the young English players coming up:D
Yep, if Ireland knew how to get the slow bowlers away they would have been in with a chance. It was the same with Chris Gale for the West Indies.
A creditable performance and yes a win over Bangladesh is a possibility and conceivably the Kiwis. Will be nice to get one win anyway and avoid total humiliation against Oz.
