Two mile borris team last night : 1 Gerry Treacy,2 Eolan McCarthy,3 Jamie Maher,4 Roger Quinlan,5 Ross Doyle,6 Jamie o Connor,7 Aidan Healy,8 Ml Butler,9 Martin Darmody,10 Ml Rafter,11 Richard McCarthy,12 Pierce Cleary,13 Joe Grace,14 Benny Harkins,15 Noel Kent,16 Brendan Connelly.
Decent game between Borris and Cahir last night. Both teams tried to play decent football but I would worry for both team in the physical area as they are mostly made up of small light players, could be a problem when up against the physical strength of the top teams. Borris had a great performance from their left winger, small but tough and tricky, the keeper looks impressive and decent performances from 2 middle of park guys and the striker took both goals well, especially the second where he had to take a big hit from keeper to score, very brave. Cahir had no stand out player but worked hard and were always game. Borris experienced players shaded for them. Footnote, young Rafter has great touch and good feet but will not make a big impact unless he gets fit, needs to lose at least a stone, with his background he should be a leader on the pitch. It's one thing been talented underage it's another to display it on a regular basis at this level.This kid has it but he needs to get himself seriously motivated and I look forward to having better comments to make about him in the coming months. By the way I have not posted since last season as off/pre season as most comments posted are idle gossip and I will only comment on games I attend in person no second hand information and they will be my own views and neutral as I am affiliated to no club. Best of luck to all player and mentors for the season.
Balls you have named 5 subs for Borris from last night, can you explain why the only had 2 and from what I was told at match the young chap that came on was only 15 and the other sub was a goalkeeper?

AS good a win as it was its just the start a long long way to go yet. Added to that is the fact that it was as poor a Clonmel Town side that there has been for a long time.

Rumoured Clonmel Celtic have no youths team this season. They won three trophies last season. Thought they had a good underage setup. Pity to see such a big town with just one youth team.

From a neutral point of view I would have to agree with Roberto, Sgtbilko’s comments about Celtic over the past number of weeks some of them have been disrespectful to the club. He might need to look at things in his own club before he goes throwing around nasty little comments about others. I have said it before about stuff like this being posted on this site it’s not on. I sincerely hope Celtic will have a youth’s team this season as it would be a big step backwards for the club in my opinion.
This Saints v Villa game on Friday has to be the biggest joke of a fixture I have ever seen, both teams are then expected to take to the field within 40 hrs of this game finishing and play in two massive games. It’s not as if we are at the end of the season and games need to be played. This is junior football and giving players 2 days notice for a game is not enough time especially when players have to get off work which is not fair to ask any player who has a job in this current economic climate.
There is a strong possibility that Celtic won't have a youths team this season. It happened a few years ago as well where they had to take a year out and it didn't seem to do them too much damage. I do agree with you that it is a backwards step and it does reflect badly on the club. It is something that needs to be addressed as established clubs needs continuity i.e. kids moving through the age structures. I know over the last year the Club has made a big effort at entry level i.e. Academy but obviously this will take a while to bed in and will even take longer to have an effect at youth level.Quote:

That is exactly the problem. Celtic went from what would have been a pretty strong u19 team to not having enough players to field a team. The club is more a victim of circumstance than actually makin a decision of getting rid of a youth team themselves.Quote:

Well said West Hammer - that is exactly what happened at that meeting. No doubt this year of transition on the age has proved unfortunate for some clubs (it is happening in other jurisdictions also). We are talking about a difficult age group but surely in a town with the population of Clonmel there is more than sixteen youths playing the game. With Clonmel Celtic gone from the first division this means there is only four teams competing. I also heard Donohill and Bansha couldn't muster enough youth players so they have amalgamated. This means the second division has just five teams.

Game is off as far as I know. The fairest thing would be to give Saints the 3 points. That is Peake's 2nd time trying to cancel the fixture. Saints are ready, willing and able to play this fixture tonight. Fixture on their website, Peake aren't supposed to be able to field a team. It's not a St. Michael's Problem to sort, it's the TSDL problem. bit early in the season for teams to be acting up.Quote:

Saintsfan the game was called off the first time round due to circumstances outside of anybody’s control so I don’t think you can blame peake for that. They are dead right not to play the game tonight. What they are being asked to do is nothing short of a disgrace. It’s similar to what went on with the Joe Delaney cup final and Town refusing to play it common sense needs to prevail in situations like this.
I'm not saying anything about why it was called off the 1st time. I want to make that clear - No one disputes a game being called off because of a Bereavement in a Club. All I am saying is that the TSDL re-fixed this fixture for tonight, Saints are willing to play even though they have another game on Sunday. In my opinion there was no need to fix this game for tonight, it’s not as if we are near the end of the season and there is a back log of fixtures that it needed to be re-fixed for 40 hrs before another massive game. As I said yesterday players need time to get off work and 3 days notice is not enough for any game at any level of football. It’s an 8 team league and as we seen last year some teams were finished in February surely you would have taught the fixture secretary would have learned something from this.
Is there any youths playing soccer anymore? Hot on the heals of Clonmel Celtic pulling out of youth football, now rumoured Cashel Town have no youths team. This means just 4 teams in each division. Is soccer losing out to GAA, rugby, modern technology gadgets, girls, booze - what is it?Quote:

To be fair Bilkos remarks are nothing compared to the remarks the Celtic players and supporters used on Facebook about Town after the game the other night it was nothing short of disgraceful what some of them were saying and this was after beating Town,at least Clonmel Town would never stoop so low as some of them did the other night anybody that wants to check it out just visit Paddy O Donnells page on Facebook and he wasnt the only one at it.Quote:

Chops I’m not on face book and don’t intend ever going on it so I will take you at your word. As I said there is no place for any of that rubbish talk on this site. I believe we are all mature enough to look beyond that type of stuff and talk about more important football matters. If people used the energy they waste from bitching into more important things like trying to keeping youth football going it would have allot more benefit.
