Munster Junior Cup 2010/11

Funny to see so many Anti Pike on tonight. Pike were Hammered alright. Missed they're chances when they had them, and you can't deny they didn't have 3-4 cracking chances that were missed. Missed Colbert badly tonight. Ahern just wasn't at the races. Tierney another big loss. Absolutely no excuses thought. The better team on the night won. Pike will surely regroup and hopefully get to meet St.Micks in the FAI final if they both get through they're respective ties.

On the sending off. Utterly stupid from Walsh. He knew he was booked and booted the ball away after a free kick was awarded. Barry should have gone for Pike as well with the high Elbow.

well done to st michaels tonight, hopefully itl give pike the kick in the arse they need, they were 1st to every ball and wanted it more, pike had 6 brilliant chances but couldnt put the chances away, st micks no 4 was outstandinding and also there keeper he saved everything, i have no problem sayin we were beatin by an outstanding side, so all the pike haters out there dont believe everything you read on this forum by all the so called pike supporters believe me we dont think and never have thought we were invinsible, roll on the hoops!!!!!!

Yes. there is a nasty bunch of 'supporters' following St.Michaels whom I'm sure the club are not so proud of. I noticed them at a couple of cup games last season.
However I am glad they won tonight. As a neutral it might calm some of the relentless and ill founded boasting that we are hearing from Pike supporters.

I find it a bit odd how when Pike get beaten 'neutrals' come on here posting about nasty Saints supporters. The club would never condone that kind of behaviour would deal deal with the perpetrators accordingly. That said, the behaviour of more than a 'few' Pike supporters in Cooke Park last year left a lot to be desired, between sitting on top of the home dug out and refusing to get off, and invading the pitch when they scored the 3rd and 4th goals. I don't want to reignite old arguments but the context has to be set.

Did say I was a neutral, I went to my same spot in Jackman Park half an hour before the game, 5 "youths" I'd suppose you'd call them, about 19-20 turned and decided, to take it upon themselves to roar abuse at both myself on anything under the sun about Pike, mostly things associated with Southill, and a few other things..Then after the first goal went in I was pushed a few times by 2 of them, again no particular reason...Thankfully that family intervened, got rid of them and sincerely apologised...Pike did alot of things last season but nothing along those lines. Theres a massive difference between sitting on dugout and physically pushing a man of 71 Years boyo...I've a lovely voice recording of the debacle also..

have to agree with this post.breen at number 4 had an outstanding game.he got a foot to everything and must have cleared 4 times at last minute in the box.the difference for me was the way michaels attacked on the break.they had runners everywhere and it was as if they knew exactly where each other were.i think some of the posts about mullins were unjustified.for me he was pikes best player and him and kavanagh never stopped working and trying.the goalie made afew crucial saves for michaels.in fairness you cant argue michaels were the better team but scoring in injury time in first half and pipping pike on the line to make stop an equaliser on 50mins were massive moments in the game.overall a great advertisement for junior football.lets hope both teams make the fai final for what would be a great rematch.best of luck also to wembley rovers today

What's very impressive is a man of 71 voice recording such an incident. That comment is ageist and condescending, then again, you did call me 'Boyo' ;)!

rumour's in tipperary are that 'the pike rover's orient express' are putting in an objection because st michael's destroyed them:):) no but seriously i thought the standard of football from pike was awful all they did was go long to alan barry and moloney all night and to be fair i would say the aerial battle's between those 2 nd breen and walsh was close. it was on the ground where pike were well and truly stuffed, if sheriff can deal with that threat they wil also beat pike next week. it was great talking to some of the saint's player's last night and you would swear they had just won a regular lge game they were that level headed it prob show's the respect they have for carrick united and know they will get a much sterner test than that in the final (assuming carrick win today). best of luck to carrick what an ocassion that wil be should both meet in the final. just on the quality of saint's play some of you should come out and watch some games in tsdl every now and again as there are some excellent footballing team's out here.

it is sad the amount of people that get joy from a team losing a match of this magnitude when they have nothing to do with either team, i suppose that's what success does to a club, but sad really.

All those people who enjoyed this (non tipp people) back to your clubs now like good little boys. Pike will win trophies for years to come so you wil have plenty to fuel your dislike (or hatred which ever you prefer) with.....

i disagree with your post to be honest goals for fun.I dont think there are many lads posting on here that "got great joy" out of pike losing last night.as a supporter of junior soccer in limerick there were afew key decisions that influenced the result of that game lastnight.I dont think myself that st michaels were 4 goals better.pike had alot of chances but in fairness to st michaels they were very clinical and played some excellent football.im sure most people in limerick would like to see pike bounce back from this.after all they did beat st michaels last year in tipp town so they dont become bad overnight.as regards to your post on people hating pike thats a bit OTT. the last team i saw from limerick getting cheered on by other clubs supporters were carew pk when they got to fai semi around 5 years ago.there is always a bit of jealousy of pikes successes but calling it hatred now is a bit much?

Well done to st micks by far the better team on the day mullins outstanding for pike kavanagh ahearn where the only three players thats played for pike rovers last night, but it would be stupid for everyone to say that they have no chance of winning in Dublin.

Went to the game last night. Thought myself that St Michaels were far more up for it and alot better too. They passed the ball alot better on the floor and 3 of the goals they scored were pure class. The third in fairness you wouldnt see on the telly. Great Football.
I will say that if it wasn't for their keeper though it could have been a different story. Stopped Pike from scoring on a few occasions from point blank oppurtunities. In my opinion pike lost the game in Midfield. Their 4 midfielders were bypassed all through the game. Hartnett touched it 5 times in the whole game. 5 times for a central midfielder is just not good enough. St Michaels on the other hand had a real solid back four, creative midfield with the left winger especially very good and no 10 played a great game when switched to midfield. 9 and 12 up front ran themselves into the ground for the full 90 mins and caused pikes back four alot of problems and for the goals tore them apart. Man of the match though had to be the keeper as he just was outstanding.
Last thing i thought it was a great idea for the munster council to drop the price from €8 last year to €5 last night.

well fellow posters, im still in shock with pikes match last night.. for our best team to leak 5 goals is unreal, fair enough saints were really good and every thing went their way,but 5 1 is a bit of a joke .I thaught Ahern and moloney were very poor ,, just not good enough for this standard ,, they were really shown up last night,, couldnt understand why Cleary was taken off, have to say the little lad for saints on the wing is some player,, i think his name is carr...pike are so much better than this,, i just hope its only a once off freak result.. Connie will have his work cut out this week at training to get things rite for next weekends game, but i hope they get a good ole win and put things rite.. as i have said, still in shock

A game were st micks won 5-1 and your man of the match was there keeper I don't know what game you were at. True he made a couple of good saves but there was some outstanding out field performances breen there centre half was outstanding along with there left winger. There no9 up front excellent

Just back from Waterford, great gutsy performance by Wembley, pike could have learned alot from their determination, very unfortunate for the first they conceded, could have snatched it, haven see n the two semi St Michaels should win it but you never kow, Carick's keeper is a fine keeper and they will need him in the final.

Everyone from 1-15 had an off-day so there's no point criticizing them any further because they have proved over the season that they are good players and can perform on the big games.

P.S. I would like to say well done to Wembley for giving a good performance down in Waterford.

Is he the junior international keeper?

Yes the junior international keeper saved two in the shoot out and got his hands to another but it crawled over the line. Poor enough first half but Carrick looked good for most of the second half and should have added to their opening half goal. They hit the post and had other good oppertunities including one that most felt had crossed the line before the keeper clawed it out. Wembley made Carrick pay by equalising 5 mins from time. Carrick went in front again in the second peroid of extra time but moments later Wembely equalised from a penalty the award of which was harsh to put it mildly. Carrick took quality penalties in the shoot out, they were deserving winners without playing well. Big improvement required for the final.

Ha Ha your a GAS MAN i know the the Oscar Traynor Manager and he doesent even have a computer AND he has won everything in Junior football except an F.A.I. junior cup has Captained 2 Oscar Traynor winning teams and has played League of Ireland and if by chance he does win the O.T Trophy he will be the first to have played and managed a winning team.

In fairness to Moloney he battled hard on the night, he didn't have much to work with because of the persistant use of the long ball from Pike. Have to disagree with you on Mullins' performance, I thought him and Kavanagh were the only two Pike lads that tried all night and can hold their heads up. Surprised to see Cleary withdrawn as well, didn't think Enright was at his best. Michael's will win the final at a canter

Another great performance from 'keeper Adrian Walsh yesterday in Ozier Park in the penalty shoot out. Carrick could have rued their missed chances with Wembley equalising five mins from time in what was really their only clearcut chance. But the Limerick side battled well in a tough encounter ,once again, spoiled only by inept officiating re. the penalty decision.

Just want to say well done to Saints on Saturday night. As long as we are supporting them, I have never seen them play that well except maybe in the FAI semi final last year against Town. Just also want to point out the arrogance of some of the posts before this game by Pike people were unbelievable. May be now you have learned a lesson from this as no game was ever won before a ball was kicked on foot.ie! To say the least, this game finally put an end to what happened last year and to be fair to Connie, he went into Saints dressing room after game and stated this very fact. They were bet fair and square by the better team and he hopes Pike get another crack at the whip in the FAI but we will have to wait and see what happens as the Semi games will be huge for both teams to overcome. It was a proud night for Saints and we are delighted for them. Nothing is won yet and Carrick will be a huge test for them in the final which I think is pencilled in for the May Bank Holiday weekend. As regards the comments about a section of our supporters on Saturday night, Saints have very loyal supporters who would travel anywhere to see them play but unfortunately, when get to this stage of the season and you are still involved in cup competitions, the club attracts an element of supporters who only go to these games for "day out" - these so called fans wouldnt go to cooke park in the middle of January on a cold wet day to see Saints play in TSDL league. We cant do anything about this only to say we dont that kind of "fan" at a game. Any genuinue supporters who were near these people on Sat night would have told them to "shut up" A huge crowd travelled to Jackman Park on Saturday night from Tipperary and the support was great. The only down side playing in a Munster Final without Chalky is a huge blow for Club and for him. If Chalky got the line for kicking away the ball, surely, Mr. Barry should have got the line for an elbow to Breeno's jaw!

MUNSTER JUNIOR CUP SEMI FINAL

Saints produced an outstanding
performance here to route a
decent Pike Rovers side at
Jackman Park on saturday
night. Paul Tobin was replaced
in the early stages after
a clash with Eoin Hanrahan.
Padraig Fogarty came in
for Paul with Richie Ryan
anchoring the midfield
and Trevor Cosgrave going
to right back. Thomas Fahey
went close on 8 mins seeing
his shot saved at the
near post by Gary Neville,
Padraig Fogarty hit the
post on 15 mins after a
pass from Thomas Fahey.
James Walsh was booked
on 20 mins for a late
tackle on Pa Moloney.
Pike played a direct game
with long balls dispatched
to Alan Barry and Pa Moloney.
Barry 23rd minute header
from a Mike Aherne cross
brought a great save from
Derek Breen. Saints went
close twice on 28 mins
fristly through John
Connery and from the rebound,
Richie Ryan's shot appeared
to be handled by Brian Cleary.
Saints penalty appeals were
turned down. Conor Kavanagh
headed over the bar on
32 mins from a free kick
as Pike looked dangerous
from set pieces in a
largely even first half.
Pa McGarry and John Connery
went in the book on 36 mins.
Pa Moloney's cross found
Alan Barry on 41 mins and
his shot brought another
save from Derek Breen.
Wayne O'Donovan and Mike
Aherne both went in the
book as half time loomed.
Saints were always pacy
on the break and rocked
Pike on 45 mins when
Jimmy Carr fed John Connery
whose angled shot from 20
yards beat Gary Neville.

ST. MICHAELS 1

Eoin Hanrahan fired over
the bar on 48 mins. Pike
were still over reliant
on long balls compared
to saints more methodical
approach. Paul Breen was
masterful at centre back
and regularly stopped
Pike single handedly.
A last ditch tackle from
Colm Enright thwarted
Jimmy Carr from a Padraig
Fogarty pass on 52 mins.
Saints made it 2-0 on
57 mins when Thomas Fahey
crossed from the byline
for Jimmy Carr to shoot
past Neville. Saints were
on the up and winning all
over the park. Pike put
in Edward O'Donovan and
David Ryan for Wayne O'
Donovan and Brian Cleary.
Colm Enright went close
with a header on 63 mins
from an Eoin Hanrahan cross.
Thomas Fahey sealed Pike's
fate when his left footed
shot from the edge of the
area found the corner of
the net after some passing
out of the top drawer cut
open the Pike rearguard.
Alan Barry went in the book
on 66 mins for a crude
challenge on Paul Breen.
Richie Ryan shot over
the bar from 18 yards
when well placed on 70
mins. Colm Carroll came
in for Keith Harnett as
Pike risked three at
the back to turn the game.
James Walsh was dismissed
for a second yellow card
when he kicked the ball
away after Pike had been
awarded a free kick.
Saints reshuffled the
deck with Shane Guerin
coming in for John Connery
and Pa Quinn moving back.
Pike came on strong in
the latter stages but
found Paul and Derek
Breen more often than not.
A long clearance from
Paul Breen saw Padraig
Fogarty beat Gary Neville
and tap home to make it
4-0 on 86 mins. Ray McMahon
came in for John Connery
with two minutes left
and promptly got booked.
Pike were awarded a penalty
with time up and Conor
Kavanagh made it 4-1 but
it was only a consolation
score. Padraig Fogerty
rounded off a great night
when he showed great skill
to score from an angle
after Shane Guerin did
well to control a clearance.
the final whistle went as
darkness fell over Jackman
Park with the result never
in any doubt after the
third saints score.

St.Michaels display was awesome but now time to move on. Good to see Saints mentors and players not going overboard. Officially the St.Michaels club make no comments on Foot.ie but heard some of them interviewed and they seem very focussed with comments re good win but no silverware won yet. They must remember it was just another game and Carrick as holders and in their third successive final will be a major test.
