I believe that there are a lot of new underage kids signing up this year.
Yeah sure... That's the place to discuss it. Even though the committee decide the price, it's still put to the players to gauge the reaction and to decide if it's reasonable or not. That's how we do it anyway. Don't think it's really the sort of business I would be posting here although.
The pitch got the goalmouths re-sodded yesterday and it looks a helluva lot better for it.
I gotta say that I'm revving up for the new season at both underage and junior level and I'm looking forward to a season of great football and more trophies from the juniors!!:D :D :D
Is that U.16 cup game against Claremorris going ahead tomorrow?
I see that the FAI Summer Soccer Camp is coming to Westport in August. Should be a great week for the kids that sign up for it.
how is the B team shaping up for the new season?. who is the captain?, is there many of the older lads still there like ian mc and olly mac?
Played a couple of challenges. Saw the 1-1 draw against Partry that was spoiled by the wind. Don't know who the captain is this term. Iain Mc is certainly playing again this year. Not sure about Ollie Mc. They're planning to blood in some youngsters. I reckon they will do fine this year.
The-Beer-Baron is formally welcomed to www.foot.ie. Great to see another Westport United fan join up.:D :D :D
more of a former player than a fan. ya they did quite well last year with the youngsters so i reckon they should stick by them. on a totally different note will ian ever retire? i reckon hes owed at least 3 testimonials at this stage.
Is it true one of the back bone or the rock of Westport has resigned his place on the Westport Committee, that being the great Kenny G.
What a great shame will be a big loss to structure of Westport, and failing on the committee not to resolve any outstanding issues, that were outstanding between them.
Iain McLoughlin is like a Duracell battery. He will keep going and going and going. When he has enough, he will pull the plug. Mind you, his retirement from the first team was a little premature; he ended up missing on getting an FAI Junior Cup medal as a consequence from that. He retired in October 2004, the following June, we all know what happened.
We're getting the U.14B team ready for the new season, and there was a great crowd at training tonight in McConville Park.:D 32 players turned up for training!! :D
I heard a vague story about a civic reception supposed to be accorded to a Westport delegation in Derry's Guildhall on Friday week by Derry City Council, which includes ex-Westport United players from Westport and the Derry connection like Stevie Wilkinson. Anyone know anything about it?
I heard that the B tem beat a very understrength first team 2-1. However, I would not even read into that result. Cam was in Dundalk to see a physio on his troublesome groin recently and he came in as sub on Sunday. A lot of the main players are out and I'm led to believe that P.F was let go by the gaffer. Also heard on the grapevine that the gaffer is going to beef up the squad with a couple of new faces over the next few weeks. Away to Crossmolina in the league on Sunday. Three points will be lovely with an injury crippled squad!! :D
Whats the deal with letting PF go TB? Did he have a 'primadonna' moment or something?
Fine footballer but questionable attitude. Supposedly was being very unreliable to the squad during pre-season, and the gaffer felt that in the best interests of the squad that P.F. had to be released. It puts P.F. in danger of being left in the footballing wilderness with his constant chopping and changing of clubs and his general application to the clubs he plays for.
i hear that kenny gannon was hounded out of the committee and the most qualified coach in the club is gone to ballyheane.new players tb ?where are they coming from ?whats going on ???
There will be a 20th Anniversary Reunion Dinner for the Connacht and Michael Byrne Cup winning side in the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport on Friday 27th April. It will consist of a three course meal followed by music with Frank and Eamon and a Disco/Karaoke.:D Tickets for this night of celebration is €30 and are available from Ronnie Ring!!:ball:
Crossmolina V Westport United game on Sunday has been changed to Milebush Park for a 2:30pm kick off!!;) :ball:
And for the hors d'oeuvres, a trip to Celtic Park to see Westport United B beat Castlebar Celtic B at 12:00 on Sunday!!;) :p :D
he wouldnt have left if the club were interested in coaching their underage properly.the underage is in turmoil no structure in place at all.its a money grabbing organisation.......committee wont listen to the underage managers at all.more will follow him......players included, some underage players talking about going to celtic and glenhest
Can you elaborate on all this?? What other underage managers are thinking of moving on? Will these players really go to other clubs? Aren't some of the committee looking after underage sides? As for your other points, do you suggest that there should be reforms undertaken within the administrative structures of Westport United?
ill answer that one tb.i dont believe any managers will go perhaps one if his sons go which i believe is close.there is a big difference between looking after a team and coaching one.we all know you have the best knowledge of this club tb.so is there a proper structure at underage level ?
what were the results over the weekend?
I don't think you're the first person in the world to say that and definitely not the last. It is very true with that statement. Person A would look after a team, organise training, have two laps as a warmup, pick two teams and throw in a ball for training.
The coach, Person B, would incorporate a warmup that is between unstructured, semi structured and structured with or without a football and may include SAQ. The session would take on exercises concerning different techniques of the game and it could work on aspects of the game like shadow play and set pieces and may finish up with a conditioned or normal game followed by a warmdown. A good coach should log his sessions; organise preparation sheets and session planners and keep a copy of his player's medical sheet. He must have drinks and a first aid kit with him and provide the kids with a diet/stretch sheet.
