Watching the game back on TV, 26 mins in is a 'moment'. If Owolabi had hit the deck it was a good shout for a penalty.
Won't get sucked into any needless debate about it, but have seen two separate angles of the penalty and it was a dive.
It matters little though, we weren't good enough on the night. Three games in a week is tiring work for any part time player. They were out on their feet by half time.
Dundalk dug deep and deserved it in the end.
Not in a disagreeable manner but would like to see the different angles myself. Part time player stuff on this occasion is rubbish, Harps were favourites to go through. Beaten by rag tag side, no form, with U19s that are not FT, players out of position etc. Harps players were certainly not out on their feet at HT, lost momentum and surprisingly lost tactically. Ollie started with showing Dundalk too much respect, an intent to impose physically knowing the mess Dundalk were at the back.
To be fair, we weren't exactly at our strongest 11 either. McGinley, Mustoe and Seymore are three big players for us. Shane McEleney played through injury that kept him out of the Finn Park game.
And I can absolutely assure you, having been around the squad, they were out on their feet at HT. Mark Coyle said after the game he was never as tired during a match in his life.
No excuses, we still should have beaten that Dundalk side, and the squad and management know it too, but that's football.
Bohemians v Waterford and St Pats v Dundalk in the semi finals.
Tough draw for Waterford but Bohs recent form hasn't been great. Hope we get a decent number of tickets for Dalymount.
Impossible to call any of those ties with all 4 teams in erratic form
Also noticed those exact same league fixtures are scheduled between those teams for Monday 25th October so possible double headers
Nice to get a home draw but Dundalk are the side I wanted least, when their players are arsed they can still be the best team in the league, they beaten the top 3 this season and the games in Europe show their quality
They’ll be up for it for a Cup semi, should be a cracker
A final of Waterford and Pats would be most agreeable and satisfying, and whoever wins best of luck to them.
Bircham should be in the frame for MOTY for the job he's done there, and I get the feeling that SOD is gonna be a successful manager in LOI, with which team yet I don't know.
Dundalk will have almost all injured players back by then, McMillan and Kelly next week, same for Boyle and Stanton, and maybe even McEleney for the final month. Hopefully the non selection of Abibi and Nattestad with continue. We already won 2-0 away in Richmond Pk this season, should be a decent game, will be a tight outcome though.
Could easily go to a replay, assuming format follows same as QF, but overall I`m fine with the draw, restrictions will be gone, would imagine max tickets will be allowed for away support, grass pitch suits us better too.
Anyone know if the games have been selected yet for who plays on Fri 22nd and who on Sun 24th?
Its the BH weekend and restrictions due to be over on 22/10, so all that will help travelling fans, actually not sure what I`d prefer now, prob the sunday, make a good day out, then again Fri has its advantages, finish work early, good buzz to the starting the weekend.
I couldn't live with that level of optimisum, I'd go for the Sunday, lose on Friday and the whole weekend is spoiled
FAI have just confirmed that both semi finals will be played at 19:45 on the 22nd. Not sure what that means for RTE after Declan McBennett confirmed the other week that they’re showing both games.
They're probably devoting both RTE 1 and RTE 2 to them.
It would be hilarious though. LOI on both channels at the same time. Irish Twitter would have a field day.
RTE weren't missing the opportunity for a cop out on this one. The fact we have LOITV gave them the opportunity to save on one live broadcast and run both games at once via their news channel, which they have used in the past for sports. It will be interesting who gets the slot on RTE 2, I would put my bets on Pats v Dundalk. I'm not sure of the costs involved of broadcasting live from an LOI ground but must set RTE back a good five figures. I thought it was part of their agreement to broadcast both games on RTE's main channels, the FAI fails again.
Who even cares about the cup anymore?
Bohemians v Waterford confirmed as the live game on RTE2 with St Pats v Dundalk on Watchloi. Waterford getting a good allocation of 900 tickets which are going on sale now. I presume they will be for the Des Kelly Stand so hope it's a nice evening now that the roof is gone.
I’m biased obviously, and I’ll be at the game, so it’s no skin off my nose, but I would have thought that the Pats/Dundalk game would have been the better choice for TV. Having said that, it’s probably marginal.
Apparently Pats have given Dundalk 500 tickets which will be upped to 1000 if restrictions lifted. I hope they are, this is the first season I didn't renew my season ticket as I gave up trying to contact the club during lockdown. Means I'll miss out on a ticket if there is only 500
The noises are looking positive in that matches haven't been linked to any big outbreaks so far apparently. A couple of hours outdoors is fairly low risk so I'd say they'll see sporting events as one thing they can lift the restrictions on.
I'm in the same boat for the Bohs v Waterford tickets. Won't know till next week if further tickets will be for sale to Waterford fans after the initial 450 or so were sold to season ticket holders and supporters club members last week.
Hopefully will get one but will depend on government decision next week.
Its most likely that the October 22nd date will be moved back by govt with the way trends are going, the shift in language the last couple of days sounds like its prepping for such news. 75% capacity could well be seen to seasons end now, annoying but could be worse as we've seen with BCD games.
Dundalk released an update yesterday, tickets on sale to ST holders, one per person from tomorrow and that further allocation will be pending govt restrictions being lifted, but as mentioned on here, hopefully sporting and outdoor ones will be exemptions, as I can see us fully taking up the 1k allocation.
This is the 3rd season in a row we have been drawn away in the cup semi-final, Sligo (19) Athlone (20), even if the 2020 one was a cakewalk, luck of the draw and all that, but I wonder would there be any interest in a return to the 1980's H+A legs format? This was similar to the English LC set up for their semi finals, with away goals not counting.
Some cracking ties in the past, I remember we played Bohs in 87, lost 2-1 at home, won 1-0 away, then won 3-0 in the replay at home (I assume that was a draw to see who hosted it), great game. Joey Malone with 2 pens, not sure who got the other goal.
Any word about Hoban's injury from Friday night?
Home and away semi-finals reduce the knock-out aspect of the cup IMO. It makes it much less likely that there will be a shock result - which is surely part of the whole proverbial 'magic of the cup'. It's much harder for a team that is weaker on paper to pull off 2 big performances than just one. Given how boring and repetitive the Cup final fixtures have been over the last five or 6 years (only 3 teams have competed in the last 6 finals - out of a maximum possible 12 teams), I wouldn't want anything which increased the predictability of the semi-final winners.
That was 1988, when both clubs going for the double, Dundalk 1-0 up from first leg, expecting a cagey affair away, we won 3-0, including a brilliant early goal from the late / great Barry Kehoe, gone just shy of his 40th birthday 19 years ago today I hear. What a player he was.
Yeah I looked it up after I’d posted it. Don’t really recall the game at all. It was before I was a regular at Pats games. I always remember the daisies on the pitch though. Those were the days !!
4,200 tickets sold so far for tomorrow night in Richmond. a 5,000 sell out is expected. The nerves are kicking in.
Pats to beat Dundalk and Bohs to beat Waterford 13 to 1 with Paddy Power.
Waterford 6 to 1 to beat Bohs...seams generous now might not seem so tomorrow night
Is it replays or extratime/penalties and finish on the nite in tonight's Cup semi's, as both sides are down to meet again in league fixtures on monday night 25th, according to RTE Sport Fixtures!
