i know we all come on and knock the committe at some stage and the fixture secetary in particular. but he does not help his own case shannon olympic last 2-3 home games were all called of on saturdays due to pitch being unplayable due to weather including todays game. so next sunday they are at home in morning to newmarket in the cup and their b teams also at home at 2pm
I don't think he can predict the weather.. Last 2-3 weeks most pitches have been unplayable.. As for next week it's 1st round of the cup and Olympic were drawn at home.. If pitch is unplayable they can move it to opponents pitch
Any report on 2nd half of Avenue game?looked well in control in first half..
@footballfriend. 3-1 it finished. Within about a min of the second half restart we got a penalty which we missed and Tulla scored on their next attack up the field about a minute later. We kept pushing on were having plenty of the play and some decent chances. Equaliser came from an OG. Herlo then scored with about 15 mins to go to put us 2-1 up. We got a third then late on when a Pa wilson strike was deflected in(although it was on target and he ll kill me if i said it wasnt his). Tulla are a very good side, lots of young lads there who try play ball aswell but I thought we fully deserved it and played very well. Ruan away next in the cup for us.
I seen yer game with Lifford aswell, good win for ye. Nice goal that second one
Yea good win.Lifford better then the predictable long ball game they played.
Bad loss for Lifford. Any report?
The main thing to report from this game was how bad the ref was. He was absoultly shocking one of the worst refreeing performances I've seen in a long time.
Lifford started well and it looked ominous for Olympic but then in a 15 minute spell they scored 3 goals and Lifford had a man sent off(which came about after he waved away what should have been a free kick to Lifford high up the pitch, the ball was booted up the pitch to the Olympic striker who was offside and ran clear on goal only to be dragged back by the last defender OUTSIDE THE BOX but the ref gave a penalty). Think they did well in the second half and created some chances and got a deserved penalty(which it took a minute for Julian to decide was a penalty, and was heard saying "On second thought, yeah it's a penalty...despite been a clear penalty) .
In saying all that Olympic deserved there win and Lifford can have no complaints about the result really, just need to be more ruthless in front of goal. All the best to Olympic, hopefully they will get out of that relegation battle.
Infairness lads that ref is only in it for the money he has no interest in football.. Saying that however bad a ref is he didn't score the 3 goals for Olympic.. It was a good win for Olympic but a terrible loss for Lifford
Yeah he didn't score the 3 goals but he didn't help Lifford at all, especially with the sending off which if it didn't happen could easily have seen Lifford coming back as it was a whole half with 11 men to get 2 or 3 goals is alot more do able then 3 or 4 goals with a man down playing against 12 lads basically. ...he also turned up 20/25 minutes later then he should after going to the pitch in Shannon instead.
It is a bad loss for Lifford and all but ends any hopes they had of winning the league IMO. Like I said they need to be more clinical in front of goal and stop conceding soft goals, because the 3 goals Lifford conceded yesterday were soft enough.
God, talk about sour grapes?! I suppose the last defender dragging down the Olympic forward when he's clear through on goal isn't a sending off offence?!! And the Lifford penalty was "deserved" but the penalty for Olympic which resulted from the "professional foul" wasn't deserved?
I don't know what the referee turning up late has to do with your whingeing either? It was because of a mix up between the ref and the league.
Obviously it's not a deserved penalty if the player was offside when the ball was played to him so the incident shouldn't have happend..where did I say it wasn't a red card? i didn't. I said the incident was outside the box, which it was. You should really learn to read.
That it shouldn't have happened, how hard is it to make sure the ref gets to the right place seeing as everyone else knew that it was on in Ennis.
Spur grapes? yeah it was really sour grapes saying that in the end Olympic deserved there win and I hope they survive relegation. It would have been sour grapes to say they were shocking didn't deserve there win and hope they go the rest of the season without a point and go down.
Lads does anyone have a hope of catching Newmarket this year.. They just don't seem to be conceding goals ..
The Olympic penalty was their 3rd goal, by which stage Lifford were all over the shop. The Lifford defending which led to the Olympic penalty was the real problem, 3 defenders all standing in a group together when the ball was played forward, no one in a covering position. The referee was in a pretty good position to make the decision, and while the Lifford defender first grabbed the forward outside the box, he brought him down in the box. Clear penalty.
Claiming the Olympic forward was offside is just clutching at straws.
The Lifford penalty was less of a penalty IMO. I think it was more a case of the referee giving Lifford a consolation in the last minute.
What has what goal it was in the game got to do with anything? It shouldn't have been a penalty and if anything it makes it even more of a disgrace that it was the 3rd gal as it killed the game asd it shouldn't have even been given. Kinda hard for defenders to be covering a player when he's offside...Lifford players were pulling out too. all in a group? if that was the case surely he wouldn't have been the last man and at least one player would have been level with him and if that's the case he shouldn't have been sent off.
Cntact was outside the box and he dived INTO the box. That's not a penalty that's a free kick simple as.
Yeah the liffrod penalty was less of a penalty despite a player clearly getting taken down in the box where as the Olympic penalty was outside the box coming from an offside player. Enjoy your win Mr.Kirby but please stop posting absolute rubbish.
Where to start with all the confusion in this post?!!
It wasn't a penalty, but it was a free, but he was offside anyway?!! Make up your mind...
I'm not sure what you mean about the last man thing, I'm sure it makes sense to you, but the Olympic player was behind the last defender and got around him only to be dragged down in the box. The referee gave a penalty simple as.
So the Lifford penalty was clear, but by your own words it took the referee "a minute" to make up his mind, so obviously he didn't think it was so clear. I don't either.
I'm not Donal.
You're obviously still bitter about such a poor performance, it's understandable.
What is so hard to understand, it WAS offside, but seen as he decided not to give it, the infringement by the lifford player took place outside the box, so therefore should have been a free kick.
The last man thing as you called it is the reason he got sent off...so surely if he was grouped with 3 other defenders he wasn't the last man and as a result it shouldn't have been a sending off but a yellow card? Yeah the ref gave it, doesn't make it a penalty though does it, he's a poor ref now that is as simple as.
Again a poor ref, doesn't make it any less of a penalty...even the player who gave away the penalty laughed about it after the match saying he thought he wasn't going to give it...which clearly shows how it was a clear penalty.
I'm sure you're not alright :D like i said good result for you Donal, but please try and be a bit more unbaised when talking about Olympic matches in the future? for your own sake.
Still don't know where you're getting this bitter business about? I clearly already stated that Olympic at the end of the day deserved there win and i hope they stay up? That's hardly words of a bitter man now in fairness is it? I quite like Olympic and players playing with the club so i'm far from bitter about it. |Dissapointed we lost obviously but that would happen in every game we lose. Fact of the matter is the ref was poor on Sunday which is what i was saying, this wasn't some bash on olympic so i don't know why you tried to make it out as one.
jesus donal and eoin... its more like the laurel and hardy show.. get over it lads its only a game of football.. and no point falling out over it.. lets move on..
Unbiaesed by saying olympic deserved the win? That's clearly biased alright
no the bits were you said !! "The main thing to report from this game was how bad the ref was.
Think they did well in the second half and created some chances and got a deserved penalty(which it took a minute for Julian to decide was a penalty, and was heard saying "On second thought, yeah it's a penalty...despite been a clear penalty" :p fairly unbiased report.......................
That's not been biased. That's just been honest...even after the game a few Olympic lads were saying they thought they were going to be in for a hammering but we just didn't create enough chances in that period, where as when Olympic were on top they created chances and took them which at the end of the day is all that matters, you can have all the possession in the world if you don't put the ball in the net it won't matter. So they did deserve there win, just like they did the other times Lifford played them, including the time Lifford won 4-2 in the league cup.
Julian was also very very poor, there is no denying that. It's not like i said we deserved to win and Olympic had no chances, and are **** and Lifford are great :p. Just reported on what I thought the game went like. That is what forums are for after all my old friend ;).
Anyway I'm done talking about it, like I said I hope this spurs Olympic on to a good few wins now and they manage to stay up comfortably. As for Lifford it's cup weekend this weekend so onwards and upwards hopefully and a chance of doing a double.
The past two results will have been considered poor for lifford alright, so like you said only way to bounce back is to win the next game whhich hopefully they will.
lads what is happening to football in clare.. shannoon olympic have already played tulla away in the league.. yet they were told they had to travel to tulla again today as their pitch wasnt playable.. i thought the league was meant to be on a home and away basis not what ever the league decide to do against a club they hate..
Any results from cup games yet lads?
Avenue A and B through to next round. A team beat ruan 7-1 and B team had a great 1-0 win over Tage A.
Newmarket A 6-1 winners against Moher.
Olympics pitch is currently closed due to works in the area by the county council which has blocked access.
I believe they have requested away games for the next few weeks so I'd imagine they were happy enough to play in Tulla again. The question is, now that this precedent has been set, are clubs going to be forced to forfeit home advantage if their pitch is unplayable/unavailable for league games?
Maybe someone from the league might care to clear this up?
Also Dirtfree why do you say the league hate Olympic?

Right lads would like to get yer opinion on what happened bridge united 19's team today. Last Sunday as with every sunday the fixtures were released and the Bridge were down to play Avenue away at 11 o'clock in Lee's road. Both the local press printed it as it was so one would conclude that would be going ahead because thats the norm in the clare league every week. NOT SO.....
......The bridge turned up this morning togged off and warmed-up only to be told be the ref that Avenue were playing Corofin 19's. After doing more enquiring the bridge found out that the ref was told thurs/fri that the fixture was changed and corrofin also got a message that they were playing Avenue (having orginially been down to play Ennis town away at 11) No person from the Bridge was contacted saying that the fixture was changed and again after making a few phone calls the bridge were told that one of their players requested to the league that match be off. Never heard the likes of this procedure happen before, always thought the management would have to contact the club secretary and the secretary would contact the league for a fixture change (and be lucky to get it at such short notice). Would like to make the point that the Bridge were missing no players for this match and that Avenue ( went on to win the match) start the game against Corrofin with 10 players. I dont know bout ye but what happened today suited Avenue down to the ground and a complete injustice to the bridge!!! Why cudnt the 10 players of Avenue play the Bridge.....? Something seriously wrong went down behind the scenes during the week!
You could maybe understand if they asked for no game the weekend if like you said Butcher Avenue were missing a number of players but i dont see how the clare league can explain changing the opposition, its obvious from looking at the table that this is a massive game as both teams along with Ennis town are fighting for the league and the fact that no one from the Bridge was contacted is a disgrace. No player has any power to ask for a match to be changed, ideally you would like both teams to be at full strenght for such a game. I would presume a complaint will be made and it'll be interesting to see what the league have to say on the matter. Then again nothing surprises me with certain individuals on the committee.
what happened to the bridge today is nothing short of a disgrace, but the problem here is that nothing will be done about it, underhand tactics to keep there beloved avenue on top, we couldnt have the likes of bridge united winning the league now could we?? but will leydon be held accountable?? i think not. surely the mighty avenue wouldnt be afraid of a few hurlers from the bridge would they??
last season in the youths, the league decided that all teams would play each other 3 times instead of the norm of home and away fixtures, this was convieniently introduced after the bridge beat avenue away and drew with them at home, so that they could have a 3rd bite of the cherry, excuse the pun...
