Wireless router/extender

It's something I've put off for ages, but it's time I sorted it.

We have Virgin BB in the house and have an attic conversion.

The modem has been moved to the second floor coax box to enable at least some signal to get up to the attic but it's still patchy at best it also means that the landline is on the second floor which isn't ideal.

Can anyone recommend a decent router? My old belkin has gone AWOL.

Way out of my price range for what use we get in the house.
