Had a HTC Smart and got the same problem. took it to a Computer repair shop in Ballybofey and the guy told me he would have to replace the screen, but it would cost about €80 to order and fit new screen(F*ck that) I'm using a Nokia 6303i that my father had spare at the moment

I read that its a common enough problem and if you have prof of purchase and its still under warranty HTC will replace or refund it. Unfortunately I had lost my receipt

It was the O2 shop in letterkenny but I've since swaped to the 3 network(due to the LOI Promotion they have) and I gave the phone to a niece who was collecting phone batteries and chargers for sending to Africa or some such place

Well you should've been easily able to replace it without a receipt as your phones IMEI would have been referenced to the sale.

I got mine to work again. Seemed it just went on strike from over use!
